I am constantly finding amazing things on iNaturalist. I was trying to identify a leafhopper from Ecuador, so I pulled up all the 243 Cicadellidae species observed in the country. Among them were many amazing, colorful species. One, however, stuck out as one of those iNaturalist discoveries that were entirely new to me - the Wasp Leafhoppers (Lissoscarta). Green-up has begun and the neotropical migrants coming in along with spring flowers. Took a hike from the East Granby Farms Land Trust property to the Traprock ridge. Red Trillium and Wild Leeks on the trail up with Red Columbine on the ridge. 39 species of birds #CTNature

Foggy visit to Sperry Pond in Middlebury - Last time I was here in February 1992 to see the Boreal Owl. Today Pine Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush and Brown Creeper singing. Spicebush flowering and spring in the air. #CTNature

On Ferry from Orient Point, Long Island, NY to New London, CT. 150 or so North Gannets feeding in the choppy waters near Plum Island. This ferry the MV Henlopen was formerly the USS LST 510 - landed on Omaha Beach at Normandy still working

Stopped at the Wilson Wetland Preserve in Putney, VT on my way back to Connecticut. A couple very talkative ravens and Red-winged Blackbirds. Signs of Beaver activity. The marsh waking up with lots of Pussy Willows and a few Painted Turtles sunning themselves #VTNature #spring

The warm weather brought out a few moths. 10 Phigalia at the porch light this morning along with a beautiful sunrise. I think the one pictured is P. titea - The half-wing moth. I’m not sure of some of the others I saw since there are 2 other species in Connecticut. #CTNature
