If you want to understand why there is this sudden, intense fascination with exploring ancient myths in our culture, you need to understand this:
We've gone through an intense "Age of Deconstruction." David Foster Wallace called it "patricidal" because it only knew to kill with critique what came before.
But when you kill the stories that created you, you lose the sense of shared identity and purpose that holds a people together.
So now, we are rummaging through our oldest myths looking for a story we can rebuild upon.
The local church is still the hope.
Today was our One Sunday service.
ONE name
ONE gospel
ONE church
ONE risen King.
104 baptisms.
104 stories of grace.
ONE message:
JESUS IS ALIVE
This is why we created the Deep Discipleship Program. We believe every local church should be helping disciples grow in Christian Story, Belief, and Formation.
So cool to see groups of 5, 50, and 100+ taking their next steps as disciples!
@kyleworley@jt_english Just started a group of 40 in Easley, SC. I am so grateful for this incredible resource you’ve helped bring to the local church.
Yesterday - I was blown away by the amount of stories @jt_english and I received from churches, small groups, and leaders who are beginning the Deep Discipleship Program.
Groups of 3, groups of 30, groups of 100s.
God is inviting us *all* into the deep things.
Let's go.
Things I heard at church today:
“I just prayed out loud for the first time”
“This week I read a Bible for the first
time”
“This is my first time at church”
“I just led someone to Christ for the first time”
Jesus is building his church!
