Imagine. Just imagine. A man so thoroughly marinated in his own sanctimony that he tweets like a motivational speaker who has just discovered the word "wired."

You stand there in your digital pulpit, the self styled King of the North, delivering this hollow little fortune cookie as if you have not spent years presiding over a city where the wiring was rather spectacularly crossed. Was Rochdale "wired for ordinary people" when those girls were being passed between predators while your authorities looked the other way? Was Manchester "wired for ordinary people" when your police force was busy covering its own failings rather than protecting them?

You speak of systems working against ordinary people with the smooth confidence of a man who has never once been held to account for the systems that failed under his watch. The wiring you speak of seems to short circuit rather conveniently whenever it touches your actual record.

This is the Burnham method. Vague aspiration substituting for achievement. The rhetorical flourish that costs nothing and means less. "Imagine." Yes. Let us all imagine. Imagine a politician who did not use the suffering of his constituents as a stepping stone to higher office. Imagine a man who did not look quite so much like a supply teacher trying to confiscate a football.

You are not offering vision, pet. You are offering vapor. A mist of progressive sounding syllables that dissipates the moment one examines what you have actually built. Which is to say. Not much.

He is planning to scrap the capital gains tax "uplift on death," meaning grieving families will be hit with double tax bills on inherited family homes.

Begbies Chartered Accountants confirmed this double levy will hit grieving families with an effective 62% tax rate!

But it gets even worse.

Burnham wants to replace council tax with a new annual property tax of 0.48% of your home's value.

If you live in an average £553,000 house, you will be forced to pay £2,654 every single year just for the privilege of living in your own home!

Restore Britain will ensure that every Bill before Parliament must pass the following test.

Will this make it easier or harder for a British family to...

Buy a home?
Get married?
Have children?
Find work?
Keep more of what they earn?
Build wealth?
Create a successful business.
Save money?
Access affordable energy?
Confidently raise a family?
Leave something to their own children?
Control the national debt those children will inherit?
Feel safe in their community?

If the answer is 'harder' to any of those things?

It will not happen.

But we will not stop there.

Every existing Act of Parliament, regulation, tax, quango and major government policy will be subject to exactly the same robust test.

If a law makes it harder for ordinary British families to buy a home, start a business, raise children, build wealth or leave a better future to the next generation, it has no place on the statute book.

Restore Britain will amend it, or more likely - repeal it.

Westminster has measured success by GDP figures, spending announcements and the number of new laws passed. Enough. That has not served British men and women.

Restore Britain will judge success by one question alone:

Will this help British families build a better life?

If the answer is no…

The PM is busy telling everyone he did a great job. If he had, the country wouldn’t be on its knees, the Labour Party wouldn’t be polling at 17% and he wouldn’t have been fired.
