I will not be casting CECC this year.
After 3 years of working an event I look forward to every year, a request for a late fee added into a contract was a step too far, apparently
Tier 2 is sparse in RL Esports as the market adjusts from admittedly inflated event budgets. Amongst all of that, CECC was a well-funded machine that was an oasis in the desert: an event emblematic of what collegiate esports can become at scale
To know my tenure is over has devastated me. I wasn't prepared for how much I'd be affected by knowing I won't see the fellow talent I adore, the players I revere, and the production crew I respect for putting on this show the past 3 years I've assisted
This has been a brutal year for me, I won't lie. I can handle that, but not seeing my friends in Waco really stings. I wish them the best, and hope we can be connected again soon 💙
After 4 years of casting at CECC, I am sadly not returning for a 5th.
To say I am disappointed is an understatement, but I am mostly frustrated by how the situation was handled. Below is my timeline of events, but I am heartbroken to not return to an event I called home
After three years I will not be returning. To my fellow caster family, I miss you all. I’m sad we won’t get unbox Pokemon cards in the lobby this year. I’ve been under a rock for awhile since last CECC. A lot has happened, including me moving home to care for my father.
So I just got✨LAID OFF✨
Can't lie, this was a complete shock and I don't know what comes next

Esports is a vehicle for experiential learning on campus.
Whether or not there is a formal esports degree path to support it, a university-supported competitive esports program or club creates opportunity for students from a diverse array of degree paths to sharpen critical career skills.
The key word here is experiential - You will not get the return out of any degree without putting in the effort to get involved and seek out opportunities to apply knowledge learned in the classroom. It's also on the institution to enable these pathways for students to get involved & commit to building & supporting a sustainable esports program.
Esports is the perfect vehicle for (especially STEM-adjacent) students to leverage a passion/interest and turn it into a developmental experience to prepare you for your future career.
If done right, esports can be a critical differentiator & competitive advantage for your institution if positioned as a vehicle for experiential learning.
4 years ago today, I took this picture while leaving my comfy corporate engineering role to jump into collegiate esports full-time.
After 9 years of grinding in esports as my 5-midnight, a dream became a reality overnight.
College esports = Opportunity!
Imagine a world where 70%+ of curriculum is AI generated and 95% of students are using AI to complete the assignments.
We may be entering a world where extracurriculars (instruments, debate, sports, esports, etc.) are the only place educators can guarantee students are rendering original thought, creativity, critical thinking.
Aristotle believed the gym was one of the most important parts of education. I believe extracurriculars will be even more foundational than they currently are in the next ten years.

Please take note that colleges and universities across the nation are freezing spending & hiring due to federal funding uncertainty
I would expect a lot of schools to drop events or conferences, and it’s best to have contingency plans in place
@BepicCasts@kend0slice@EsportsConcord@DU_Esport @GoNUesports @gamecockesports It’s something special when we get to enable that moment for the players and I’ve got the best job in the world I get to see old friends on business trips and make memories for our students.
Now we just need more casters at institutions… who’s hiring???
