The Stop the War Coalition has responded to the Socialist Equality Party's request to defend our comrade, Bogdan Syrotiuk.

Their statement notes that he was "sentenced to 15 years imprisonment" on "charges of 'high treason' under martial law for opposing NATO and for calling for solidarity with Ukrainian and Russian workers." They add that "The same charge of support for the Russian government has been levelled against all opponents of NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, including Stop the War."

Every day in prison is a threat to Bogdan's life. All socialists must step forward to take part in the campaign to secure his freedom. Sign the petition and join the campaign here!

Another driver told WSWS reporters, “We had a problem, and they should have told us they’ve resolved it, or at least set out a timeframe, one or two months. But they didn’t tell us anything, both Unite and the transport companies.”

One young worker said, “I haven’t heard anything. Not in the group chats, and not from the union rep.” Asked what he thought about Unite calling off the strike, “It’s bullshit. I think they were ready to just accept any offer.”

The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) has issued an urgent appeal to the Stop the War Coalition (STWC), the leadership of the anti-war movement in Britain, to take action and publicise the plight of Ukrainian socialist Bogdan Syrotiuk, sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Zelensky regime last Monday for calling for the unity of Ukrainian and Russian workers against the war.

The Socialist Equality Party (UK) has concluded a series of public meetings, “Your Party’s collapse—Time to build the Socialist Equality Party”. A lively discussion followed the opening report at each meeting.

Retail worker Mae said: “The answers were very in-depth and included a lot of historical context, which I liked because communism and socialism are very old concepts now. It was good that there was a lot of historical knowledge and evidence to support the ideas being put forward. It felt like there was a solid foundation.”

Medical student Alenke: “We need a complete upheaval of the existing system. Because we’re not just fighting people here. We are fighting a whole system. And you can’t just replace people from the existing system.”

“NHS Fightback, representing healthcare workers, doctors, and nurses in Britain, finds this conduct abhorrent. We support the demand for a full investigation, a public repudiation by the UAW of the threat made against Lehman, accompanied by a formal apology, and a guarantee that the remainder of the 2026 election is conducted free from intimidation.

“Healthcare workers in Britain understand what intimidation means. Under the Labour government, doctors and nurses who opposed the Gaza genocide have faced suspension, removal from the medical register, and doxxing by far-right forces. The UAW appears to be adopting its own Trumpian tactics of intimidation against rank-and-file members...

“We can all see why this is happening. Lehman is being targeted for his prominent campaign to abolish the bureaucracy and build rank-and-file power."
