在英国伦敦，上千名示威者上周六（2月8日）在伦敦塔附近的皇家铸币厂旧址外集会，反对中国拟在该地段建设“超级大使馆”。

抗议者包括中国异见人士、维吾尔人和藏人团体，以及在英国寻求庇护的香港人，他们称担心大使馆可能被用来“监视”和“控制”异见人士。

前保守党领袖伊恩·邓肯·史密斯爵士（Sir Iain Duncan Smith）、前安全国务大臣汤姆·图根达特（Tom Tugendhat）也到场声援。

许多示威者手举“中共正在监视你”、“拒绝中国超级大使馆”的标牌。

中国在2018年花费2.55亿英镑巨资，买下了这个盖于1300年代的古迹，并希望对其��行重建。如果建成，这将是欧洲最大的大使馆。

2022年，哈姆雷特塔伦敦自治市议会（Tower Hamlets Council）拒绝授予该计划许可证。

在工党去年上台后，北京重新提交了申请。在中国国家主席习近平直接与首相基尔·斯塔默爵士（Sir Keir Starmer）讨论此事后，政府决定启动审议程序。

公众听证会将于本周展开。而副首相兼住房大臣安杰拉·雷纳（Angela Rayner）将作出最终决定。

该计划最初也遭到伦敦警察的反对，理由是外面的抗议活动可能会影响公共安全并阻塞道路。但警方后来放弃了反对意见。

中国驻英国大使馆上月回应称，新馆��规划设计方案“充分考虑了英国建筑规划政策要求及各相关方意见，是一个高质量的方案”。

中国外交部周一（2月10日）宣布，中国外交部长王毅将于2月12日起访问英国。
