It would be interesting to use a LLM to do textual analysis and story organization and viewpoints to see if the Illiad and Odyssey had the same author. Then do the same on Carrie and The Shining to see what the same tools say.
I just watched a farmer cut and bale hay from his 20 acre pasture across the street. Just like the industrial revolution changed farming, AI is going to change all office/desk work.
Bell Labs was a very flat organization. We we all Members of Technical Staff. My group was headed by Field H. Winslow, his boss was Dave McCall, his boss was Bill Slichter and then there was the president of Bell Labs.
Iran is about 2.5 times as big as Texas and has about 90 million people vs Texas's 30 million. It's not clear to me that 4 weeks of bombing will come close to destroying the country.
I agree and don’t. If you want to build a plane, you need to understand birds. You need to understand what flight is. What it means to fly. And how birds do it. And you need to understand how birds take off and how they land and how they steer. Unless you understand all of that, you aren’t going to have a very good plane. At the same time, a plane is not a bird and if you have a functioning plane, it isn’t very helpful to think of it as a bird. I think today’s AI is missing pieces that are fundamental to a truly functioning synthetic intelligence. It doesn’t have neuroplasticity and it doesn’t have persistence. It is an excuse to say, well that’s just because it’s different. You could say the same about a plane that can’t land or steer. A better way to look at it though is that it is incomplete. I think you can mean anything you want by AGI. To me though, if you define it as everything a human can do, then most humans are not super geniuses in every subject or even one, but they do stay on and they do autonomously encode new knowledge and learning
If you wanted a military coup in the US what better way than assemble all the generals and admirals together then demonstrate the country's leaders are incompetent, pathetic fools?
The shooting of George Wallace in 1972 was an evil, awful act by a terrible person. But that shooting does not change the despicable Wallace message of " ...segregation forever." You cannot allow sympathy for a person to equal sympathy for a message.
I think the appropriate solution to the trolly problem is to pull the switch and kill one person, then immediately commit suicide for the act of murder.
Given Israel's actions in Gaza, the only way you can be anti genocide is to be anti Israel government. People have to speak out and not be afraid of being called an antisemite.
Another business idea. Make a "talking head" of a famous person, Plato, Einstein, Jesus (dangerous), Shakespeare, etc. and train a LLM on all the person's works and commentary on the works. Then enable queries and conversations.
King George III could send people to the Tower of London without trial. Donald Trump can send people to CECOT without trial. How should Americans respond?
