How did the 72 names of God come to be? First of all we must specify that, what many ignore is that the original language in which the Bible was written is lended to the cabalistic use of gematry, which is the combination of letters and numbers, from each letter sprout roots, trunks, branches and flowers as a fountain forming other words. More than names are attributes (because God is infinite and cannot have a name that determines it or encompasses it in its essence). The 72 names are born from 3 verses from the Book of Exodus (Chapter 14, 19-21) which describes the passage of the Red Sea (from which we will decipher the archetypes later). The charm of this interlacing lies in the fact that the 3 verses each consist of 72 letters, but 72 is also the numerical value of the word Jesed (or Chesed), which expresses the mercy of love or grace (and are the angelic spheres, corresponds to Dominions Choir, the angels governed by the Archangel Hesediel), and just at that moment is a host of 72 angels that help the people cross the Red Sea. In fact, these names will then be identified as guiding energies, guardian angels, or the name of 72 angels. 72 were also the steps of the staircase which Jacob saw in a dream, whereby the angels of the earth descend and ascend into heaven.
Another cabalistic peculiarity is that the number 72 corresponds to the word Jèsed, but if we add all the letters of the 3 verses (therefore 72x3) the numerical value is 216 which corresponds to the Word Guevurah. And here is the perfect symbolism: these names are those of the two serifots that open the columns of the Tree of Life on the right (Jèsed) and on the left (Guevurah), just as the Red Sea opened to Moses and two columns. If we instead divide the 72 names into 3 columns, 24 names for each column, it is the hours of the day available to cross the interior of the soul, the Red Sea.
How are names formed? It's of a unique beauty, it's like braiding a woman's hair, taking the first letter of the first verse, the last of the second and the first of the third. The second Name of the second letter of the first verse, the penultimate of the second and the second of the third... and so until you form 72 trigrams or names each of 3 letters.
