@AndrewSansom8 Andrew, this is interesting. I think it would be best to introduce the Anglo-Saxon synonyms of words to new ELs because they are more concrete. Once ELs have a higher English proficiency, the Romantic and more abstract synonyms would benefit their vocabulary.

@AndrewSansom8 Great point, Andrew. I highly recommend the book The Teacher Wars by Dana Goldstein. It chronicles the entire history of teaching in America. It is very insightful and gives me hope for the future of the teaching profession.
