In a retrospective study of 122 pituitary macroadenoma pts undergoing neurosurgery, most tumors were non-functioning; acromegaly was the most common functioning type. Post-operatively, significant improvement in visual acuity & reduced hormonal replacement therapy were observed.
In a Philippine study of pituitary tumors who had neurosurgery, most presented with initial symptoms of blurring of vision but majority of it (77.78%) are not producing hormones. Surgery remains the cornerstone of therapy with benefits in visual and endocrine function.
