@ellibrickwood13 @OT_CarersUnite @neuroteachers That is so great to hear. I would take it to the next level and have sessions with social work, physio, ot, and other professional students too. Integrated studies modules..
@neuroteachers Yes that is why all need to problem solve together ..look at systems failures identify what cam be changed at low ir no cost ...parent carers might surprise teachers & SEND staff with their capacity to work together. The question is whether education staff feel threatened by this
@neuroteachers We have had the unfortunate situation where teaching staff have discriminated against my child & I ( governers + independent reviews) but this causes school based trauma & exacerbates issues. Yet had a fantastic school too where the SENDCO was outstanding and respectful of all.
Equal power also needs to be given to the child, parent, health and social care staff. Until this happens decisions made by LA & education staff, at the exclusion of others, can put children at risk. The power dynamic needs addressing in EHCPs etc.
Many parents face battles & delays. The Children’s Commissioner recommended that mainstream schools be given the resources to support children with SEND, and if alternative provision is required then this should be available from day one
#OT_Carer
Children’s Commissioner calls for radical “rehaul” of the SEND system. No, children don’t need more system changes, they need the current system to be properly implemented and complied with. Why not look at ways to do THAT?

What about children in specialist schools? I think it is time that children are given bespoke packages and that L/T alternative provision is funded alongside specialist schools+Both are written in EHCPs. My lo has wasted a years education due to LA/school funding decisions.
@MovingOTs#OTalk lived experience. Although research is great it can take years to be published. You contain feedback survey data or grey literature as evidence too. We did in ourvservice.. sailing, football, badminton, dance... you are empowered to seek your users views!
@neuroteachers Teacher must be humble +willing to learn from parent carers. Sometimes teachers make really poor decisions that discriminate against/impact on #ParentCarers. This is a misuse of power. Parents are exhausted by this. Explore your culture & factors such as blame vs partnership
@trevor_caroline I am absolutely shattered. 90 miles in 2 days.. I suppose it's better than 140, as I stayed out today, but the concentration required to drive in the midst of heavy bass music!!!
For only the 3rd time in months I have just got my lo out to meet her teacher. They've gone for a walk. She has only been in school for a maximum of one month since last year due to systems failure... me I'm having a coffee. #Carer#ParentCarer
@CPMumma79 If you gp to adult services they may assess you and provide for your needs... its all about budgets and teams trying not to spend too much. I'd complain... I get 10 hrs pw in theory- no worker at the moment. #SandwichCarer
Unexpectedly. I had to take my child to her farm provision. Rather than a 100 mile , 4 hr, round trip, I've stopped off at a historic landscaped garden ❤️ whilst leaving the other cared for person at home. Hope she is OK.

Anyone fancy Shakespeare on tour .. I can't believe it but there are 4 different locations only a short drive away! wow... https://t.co/Z9GKxVPvk0
I've only ever seen Shakespeare at outdoor venues incl London Zoo & Ashton Memorial...
Non-compliance with the law by many LAs lies at the heart of the SEND crisis. If this is not addressed, nothing is likely to improve.
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced in navigating the SEND system? Tell us in the comments or R/T.

@IPSEAcharity Unlawful practice and discrimination; non entitlement to legal aid and cosst of judicial review is prohibitatove; lack of sendias support for tribunal; impact on family and child. They have a huge staff turnover the stress must be bad but what they put parents through is dire too
