@jhwurleriii@cati1836@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer That’s why my most unpopular opinion is that politicians in most cases should be lawyers. In theory they understand the law and will write laws that don’t have unintended consequence. IN THEORY doing heavy lifting.
@jhwurleriii@cati1836@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer I understand but don’t agree. When the constitution was originally written illiteracy rate was higher and communications were slower. The framers didn’t trust the population to make informed decisions.
@jhwurleriii@cati1836@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer This is why any discussion of eliminating the electoral college is dicey. It’s very much a “be careful what you wish for” situation.
And yes executive orders are used too frequently.
@jhwurleriii@cati1836@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer I don’t fully disagree. The opposite case is also equally frustrating though. To be in the majority and yet lose the electoral college doesn’t fly for a lot of people.
@jhwurleriii@cati1836@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer But why would that warrant a systemic thumb on the scales? If the rural YA’s feel like the system they’re living with doesn’t fit, they should be working to change it. It’s representative. We may not like the outcome but…
@cati1836@jhwurleriii@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer Turn the argument around. Is it moral to make people’s votes count less because they live in a densely populated area?
@cati1836@jhwurleriii@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer but instead we have a current reality where we just prevent the opposition from doing anything at all to score political points.
@cati1836@jhwurleriii@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer Again a fair point, but the opposite argument can be made as well. If we both just dig our heels in nothing gets better. The benefit of divided government is it encourages us to find solutions that we can all live with.
@cati1836@MarkOnorato66@jhwurleriii @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer That’s a fair point. Electric vehicles are also an issue in that regard, at least until ranges are greatly increased. People don’t quite get how large the country is.
@cati1836@jhwurleriii@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer Regardless, why should we use a different system to elect one office than all the others. Seems outdated. And before the inevitable the framers were smarter comment…lots of them thought it was okay to own other human beings.
@cati1836@jhwurleriii@MarkOnorato66 @MDubyaaa @Mikel_Jollett @2020Politi @BCDreyer How do they have less of a stake in policy? Because they don’t pay property taxes? Do you not build that into rent?
