Now and then I have to conduct family business in my ancestral homeland in very rural southern Mississippi where my family has been for 216 years. In the course of such things, I have to interact with the county courthouse, tax assessor, etc in county seats in cities with populations well under 2,000 souls.
The same wonderful people I run into in person when there IRL, I find when I call or email.
Unfailingly, the response is prompt. The people are unfailingly polite and helpful—friendly to a high degree.
Per Capital Income in this part of Mississippi is about $23,551.
Per Capital Income in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area is $96,000.
Money does not buy you a civil society.
@KKriegeBlog Yes, but you should respond with "OK, but understand that by 'Star Wars' I mean one movie released in 1977, for which there have been 2 sequels. And that's it." And see what happens.
@NickJFreitas And do it as zero-base budgeting. That is, don’t take what’s existing and start trying to cut - but start with nothing at all and build based on what’s Constitutionally allowed.
@cdrsalamander@TimDocChoi Most of the others have flags on their hats but this one's indistinct. Some kind of light spot on dark field, so maybe ROC (blue sky with a white sun)?
@cdrsalamander And my first two sentences here are just inelegant thumb-typing, not trying to one-up Mr. Konrad’s description. Sorry ‘bout that. Anyway, you’ll love the book.
@cdrsalamander Mr. Konrad's "beyond description" is a good way to put it. Maybe the best way to put it is that it's "about" information theory. It will impact the way you think about information streams around you; I do the Bible and Cryptonomicon every year.
@cdrsalamander It's historical fiction (WWII and a contemporary-to- 1999 timeline), and nearly as big as the whole LOTR. Note that when you get into it there's a section where you'll want some diagrams that are in the paper version, but that's easily handled - or you can get the paper one.
@LudwigNverMises Modern Progressivism is what you get when you take the actual/biblical Christian parts out of cultural Christianity. See Machen's "Christianity and Liberalism" for a contemporary (1923) critique of it.. And (it's fun), Mencken's obit of Machen called "Dr. Fundamentalis".
@cdrsalamander@ColPotter59 Well it's an honest mistake if you're 12 years old - or an adult adolescent, I guess. And this is one more case of "the issue is never the issue - the issue is the revolution". This is a continuation of the kulturkrieg we've seen going on for awhile (renaming, etc.).
