@MichaelLCrick T Dan also thought Westminster was waiting for him, but Wilson dubious & didn't give peerage/minister post he expected; he moved onto quangos and commissions instead until his conviction. Poulson later said Smith was entirely useless at bringing in corrupt business & just greedy!
Passing through St Peter's Square earlier, it struck me it's a very Manchester thing there's space not just for people to protest against very unpleasant foreign regimes, but also for people to say the previous very unpleasant regime was in fact splendid, and bring back his son.
Yes @gmpolice have got massively better at actual policing under current Chief (notwithstanding my run-in with his predecessor as a cllr) but I can't see why bees & climate action should be taking up any neighbourhood policing time at all given other pressing issues. @KateGreenSU
Millions of people: "There's a housing affordability crisis and even people with decent jobs can't afford to get on the housing ladder"
@Ed_Miliband: "I already have a house with 2 kitchens & am making all new homes at least £10k less affordable from 2028"

@tomorrowsmps Also, at least demonstrating he's not much of a capitalist, their "candidate" Cllr Sarwar may be a bit busy dealing with the 3rd attempt to strike off his company, whose accounts have been overdue since April 2025: https://t.co/9FrIoAVreb
@tomorrowsmps WPGB apparently held a constituency fundraiser the other day and only raised a fraction of the deposit, let alone the cost of a campaign. Any talk of stepping back for the good of the working classes is just self-serving; their very brief moment in the sun has passed.
Meanwhile the actual Reform campaign launch venue in Denton has taken to Facebook to claim that Farage and his new familiar just happened to pop in when the place was full of TV cameras and journos, set up for some other reason. #Gorton#Denton#GortonAndDenton#VoteLabour
@tomorrowsmps Someone clearly with excellent local knowledge was asking the random people of Reddit yesterday where in the constituency they might hold an event for "a load of lefties" this Saturday. Can't be that many suspects?
@robfordmancs Someone clearly with good local knowledge posted on the Manchester subreddit earlier for suggestions of somewhere in the constituency to hold a by-election event for "lefties" this Saturday. Could it be George flying in to launch his campaign?
Anyone know which "lefties" have so little local knowledge about #GortonAndDenton they are asking people on Reddit to suggest a venue for a campaign launch this weekend? Is this you George?🤠 #Gorton#Denton#Byelection#VoteLabour
@tomorrowsmps Does it perhaps say where he's actually from? He laid his local connections on very thick indeed in speech earlier - "Manchester made me" - but his NHS boss dad was listed as living in the central Manchester suburb of Warrington when he got his CBE. His own bio says nothing...
@mattforde Wetherpoons often get a bad press - often either snobbery or because Tim Martin is apparently more harmful than much more cuddly private equity owning everything - but Spoons generally has decent accessible toilets and in some cases, often the best accessible toilets in town.
A bit surprising how little the Shrewsbury Diocese seems to think of it when across the Mersey Liverpool has St Monica, Bootle, Velarde's Grade 1 Listed masterpiece. And St. Matthew's, Clubmoor, where my parents got married!

@C20Society Hi - just spotted this and wondering if it's on your radar? When I saw the pic, I thought it looked like FX Velarde, and it is, although built after his death: https://t.co/40g1ZVoWWX
