@WhoisSkid Oh, today’s modern day Cup races are on average 16 mins shorter than at any point in the last 3 decades according to racing reference.
But let’s throw out tradition and cater to the crowd who will be on TikTok by lap 3.
@jeff_gluck Via racing reference: modern day Cup races are 16 minutes shorter on average from green flag to checkered flag than any of the previous 3 decades.
The races are as short as they’ve ever been.
I can go buy a completely stock car right now on a manufacturers sales floor that makes more power than the Cup cars do.
That’s a problem. I used to get hyped for watching a race bc I believed I was going to watch a driver do something super human. I don’t get that feeling anymore
@Ratburn_the_Red@jeff_gluck I agree with all of that. I just fear that we forget who we’re dealing with here and that there was a lawsuit just last year about not giving teams a bigger cut of the TV pie
Bc the problem isn’t the race. It’s everything else that slows it down. Stage breaks take far too long.
So when race lengths change- everything else will remain. The commercials every 5 mins, the stage break laps.
So then we end up with less of something we love so that the TV can get more commercials in
