My honest thoughts after 24 hours with the iPhone Duo:
Pros:
• The big screen is amazing
• Finally a foldable inside the Apple ecosystem… my family doesn't have to change anything
• The nano texture feels like glass, not plasticky
• The front screen is super compact
• It doesn't slip… I can basically use it without a case
• Back camera selfies with the Ultra Wide are so handy (nothing new for foldables, but still)
Cons:
• The hinge feels premium but… different
• Battery isn't great yet (it's still indexing)
• It gets a little hot, probably from that too
• The back button is on the right in optimized apps and on the left in unoptimized ones 😅
• It's heavy, but not break your hand heavy
Surprise: I don't miss Face ID like I thought I would.
I still think the Fold 8 is better in a lot of areas… but this feels like my main phone until the Duo 2 😅😅
I'm glad I went with this color, it looks really nice in person… although black would've been a better option for me
One thing that they should fix is to use both. They can use front camera and watch to work as Face ID. Not sure why they didn’t.
And I know they do it now, but I’m referring to showing the notifications on the lock screen. It would be nice if you can look at the screen and if you are using your watch they show up.
@TechnicallyTee Same here, but to be fair it is still indexing all that. Mine was running hot too but right now it feels a little more cooler and battery is getting a bit better
You know that I had a community note on one post because I used software fix instead of setting for the case? Lol 🤣🤣
People take things too personal. I was just sharing my opinion that the more I learned about the case the less I liked it.
Same with this post, one thing is to have third party apps not supporting the duo yet but I expected all first party apps to be optimized for the Duo day one. We cannot be fanboys and accept everything blindly. That only make products worse
@thenormlife_@spigen I have that one installed, I don’t have a front case but it is not edge to edge, I’m assuming yes it is compatible at least with their cases
I'm not sold on the Dynamic Island on the iPhone Duo yet… 😅 On the side like this, it cuts off basically everything that isn't artwork. Even my fantasy football score gets chopped 😅😅
Multitasking is the big one. I watched an F1 race with Apple TV on top and the F1 app with driver data on the bottom. Camera has RAW and APV/Log video. Typing with Gboard is way better on Android than on iOS.
Samsung also gives you more settings to make apps work better on the foldable, and most apps were better optimized for the Fold 8 inner screen out of the box than they ever were on the Fold 7. I'm not too sold on the dock on the right on the Duo yet, but that's probably muscle memory and a lot of apps not being optimized. It should get better.
Overall I prefer the Duo because of iOS and how it works with my family. You can't go wrong with either, but if you and your family are on Apple, the Duo will be a better overall experience. Leaving the ecosystem has annoyances you can ignore at first, but after a few months they start getting in the way.
