You can absolutely say the throw impacts the yards after catch.

@ArianFoster where a pass is thrown has a direct impact on how well the receiver is positioned to continue the play. If QB throws the ball behind and WR has to turn or break stride to get the catch he’s much less likely to break more off after the catch.
