In my shoot job, I work with many people who have severe mental health issues, and whilst I do not usually do this on my wrestling related feeds, the tragic death of Liam Payne has struck a chord with me, and I hope you will indulge me for a few minutes.
Content creators like @film_cooper should take note.
For a while, videos about how 'cringe' Liam Payne is have been popping up on my YouTube algorithm. I am not sure why, as I have never watched them. To me, they just seemed cruel, tantamount to bullying. When the news of his passing came through, I watched one, and my assumption was correct.
Here was a young gentleman who had been open and honest about his struggles with mental health. I wouldn't wish to try and diagnose from afar, but in his behaviour, I saw potential symptoms of bi-polar disorder, maybe BPD, something along those lines. He had also been open about his struggles with addiction.
Imagine, as a child, being thrust into an environment in which you are practically worshipped on a worldwide scale. Now, imagine you reach adulthood and the band breaks up. Suddenly, you can't take a single sidestep without continuous negative publicity and character assassination. I for one can't imagine how jarring that would be.
So, when I heard about his death, out of curiosity I went back on to YouTube, and I was quite unsurprised to see that a lot of these videos had seemingly been removed or renamed overnight. Does that not beg the question as to whether they should have been uploaded in the first place? I am not suggesting that the YouTubers were directly responsible for his death... but I know that if I was one of those YouTubers, I would certainly be asking very deep questions about myself and my content.
The truth is though, most will pay lip service to being kind for a few weeks, but then the lure of interactions and views and retweets will return, and they will pick their next victim. Just as they did with Britney, or Caroline Flack. Vile behaviour.
Just to add, my deepest sympathy lies with his ex-partner, who it appears took the brunt of a lot of his mental health and addiction issues. She had every right to speak her truth, and it definitely appears that a lot of Liam Payne's contact with her was inappropriate. I am sure nobody predicted this outcome, and my heart goes out to her.
So basically, what I'm saying is that in this age of content, where a video slaughtering Liam Payne for taking pictures with One Direction fans and 'trying to be centre of attention' can garner 800,000 views, maybe being kind isn't just a phrase that should be trotted out whenever a celebrity dies in tragic circumstances. Maybe it should be a rule to live by, whether the content gets views or not. Just a thought.

For those struggling with addiction, I was where you are and my life was turned upside down over drugs.
Most times the addict doesn't even know or think he has a problem. Trust me, I know. You are either going to hit rock bottom and end up in jail or worse, dead. Don't let that happen. Help is out there and I am living proof that recovery works.
