An ATINY (wommy/youngbuin) appeared on the SBS morning news (?) program Morning Wide and introduced the ‘fangirl savings plan’:
Yejin, who succeeded in saving over 10 million won in just three months, says it was all made possible thanks to her favorite idol.
“After I started liking ATEEZ’s Wooyoung, I’ve already managed to save 13 million won.”
Her special saving method is something called the “bias savings plan.” It’s a type of flexible savings where you set your own rules and deposit a set amount of money according to those rules. Yejin decided to base her rules on the actions of her favorite celebrity.
“When I get a message on the celebrity communication app, I deposit once. When they go live, I deposit again. When they post on social media, I deposit once more. I break the rules down like this.”
It’s a new savings method where you deposit a small amount whenever you feel joy and naturally build a saving habit.
“Around seven or eight months ago, I saw baseball fans doing a ‘favorite player savings plan.’ They would deposit money whenever their team scored. I thought, ‘Why not apply that to fangirling too?’”
They say that while setting a goal and achieving it is important, the fun you experience along the way is also one of the key things the MZ generation values in their financial activities.
“I didn’t start with the intention of saving a big amount, but when I could actually see my money piling up, I felt proud. I think the nice part is that you can save money while enjoying your fandom activities.”
* MZ Dictionary:
“When you need to save, you save, and when you need to spend, you spend - ‘Zinance’.”
