@metasuchus@Visceral9000@TemmieMew I measured Juancho with Luis Sigler on my last visit a couple months ago. He is ~420 cm TL, though it wasnโt ideal as we had to align him to a 360 cm long poll then measure the poll & his DCL.
@TetZoo@bbcstudios@AppleTV@Framestore Amazing work from you especially. Really looking forward to seeing this, keeping my fingers crossed that the crocodilians will be done some justice this time. If not now, please consider the Late Miocene at some point as a certain group within Alligatoridae reached their peak!
@AndriMagnason By far one of the greatest influences to many current and future crocodilian biologist to this day! Itโs an immense shame he left so soon.
@AlliGatoDundee@metasuchus@ArtemijAnd42837@ausar_the Itโs worth adding that these individuals are also from the smallest known Caiman population in terms of average body size. Either way, my point still stands, a 17 ft Caiman is not going to weigh less than a 15 ft gator unless the Caiman is literally a pile of bones.
@AlliGatoDundee@metasuchus@ArtemijAnd42837@ausar_the The Caiman is also far less studied than the Alligator with large individuals seldom ever measured while large Alligators are consistently studied. Skulls and the known DCL:TL ratio is enough to prove the Caiman is much larger. A caiman over 5m has also been captured already.
