Paper gives me the same feeling @bunjavascript did early on. An underdog product, built from scratch, with this mantra of "it was made wrong and we can fix it"
And its funny because Figma and Framer can't compete with that. Not because Paper is doing something impossible, but because fixing it would mean admitting the foundation was wrong. Large companies don't rebuild foundations
So Paper just gets to keep shipping, and every update makes me feel more right about rooting for them
Good morning!
The Pen Tool is live in Paper
Draw shapes, generate SVGs, or vectorize images, and edit the points and paths.
Paper uses real SVGs so exports are 1:1, no surprises.
The new SVG workflow: create โ refine โ ship.
Try it out! And show us what you draw.
The AI feature is like 2% of what I was talking about.
The thing that makes Paper architecturally interesting is that it's not a canvas tool at all, it's HTML and CSS, in the DOM, all the way down.
What you see is already code. That's why exports are 1:1. That's why SVGs are real SVGs. There's no translation layer that loses detail. And that's something Figma literally cannot replicate without starting over.
Paper gives the vibes of "I have it all in my head, we just need to make it"
Especially with a roadmap like yours, where you show "yes we know, we want it too" ๐ค
If youโre wondering how this differs from the latest CSS Spec of corner-shape, corner-shape: squircle is a superellipse.
Apple/Figma corners are a different curve family entirely (Bรฉzier + arc).
The word โsquircleโ is doing a lot of heavy lifting across two incompatible constructions.

I have been obsessed with smooth corners since I discovered them, and yet, they still haven't truly made it to the web.
My obsession and I have built an early version I'm happy to share; open source, and open to suggestions.
