Primarily down to falling viewing figures no doubt, and the new ways we consume football content in 2026. Also very likely down to the current presenters and pundits not being up to the standard of their predecessors @mrdanwalker
Really sad to hear about the end of Football Focus.
I loved that show growing up. I used to watch it every week with my dad and I remember how proud he was when I got the job. It was such a privilege to sit in the chair for 12 years, work with an amazing team on and off air and form so many lasting friendships.
Saturdays were always special.
The football landscape is constantly changing and itโs disappointing that there isnโt space for a show that has meant so much to so many people for so many years.
Even after knowing he makes it, this was possibly the most riveting 2 hours of TV Iโve ever seen. I canโt imagine what it was like watching it live ๐คฎ
@loco_wild@HLTCO The interest in Guehi started in 2024 and was picked up at the end of the season. An informal offer was on the table in July/August. Parish said if no new contract was signed then he would be sold. Deal was in the works for months and Palace didn't have a suitable replacement.
@loco_wild@HLTCO Nope. The deal was agreed and was going ahead until about 6.30pm when Palace pulled the plug. Igor going to West Ham at the last minute was the trigger for that. So the timing of the Guehi bid was not the reason. Cheers
@loco_wild@HLTCO Not sure what your point is. Palace knew he was leaving because they made a Goodbye video. So the deal was agreed and they pulled out after not sorting a replacement which is on them. Glasner wanted to keep him, Steve Parish wanted the money.
@loco_wild@HLTCO Officially yeah. But from all reports the club to club agreement was in place weeks ago. So Palace will of known it was incoming, but they didn't find a replacement over the summer. The bid came in and then they were scrambling to get Igor in on loan on deadline day.
@loco_wild@HLTCO Except the two clubs have actually been in talks all summer. Palace had offers for Guehi last summer and in January, they knew he wanted to leave. Ultimately Glasner has got his wish but Guehi will now leave for free.
@FPLFamily No chance. An 18 year old kid thrown into a game at St James Park with that kind of hostility? It will be Dom or Wataru at RB. Then Gomez to finish the game.
People think money has ruined football but the sight of a rapist dictator standing next to a corrupt football official in front of a big gold trophy at a competition bankrolled by Saudi Arabia reminds me the game still belongs to us.
