@bencsmoke In fairness to the BBC, at the time of reporting the PSNI had issued a statement saying they believed the attacker was Somalian.
When further information on the attacker’s nationality was shared by the PSNI, the BBC made the change.
This would be a bad, unnecessary idea and an imposition on people’s choices.
Many couples don’t marry precisely because there’s no legal status. That’s why marriage/civil partnership is so significant.
If people want a relationship with legal status, that’s an active choice.
Many unmarried, cohabiting couples have limited legal protections if their relationship ends or a partner dies, even after long-term relationships or raising children together.
Labour is consulting on reforms to strengthen the legal protections available to these couples.
It's absolutely baffling to see the backlash against this announcement.
Imagine complaining that the UK is securing a multi-billion-pound private investment.
Let's look at the actual numbers: taxpayers are funding £1.3bn for local roads & a new rail station. In return, Universal is spending £5 billion to build the park and another £1 billion operating it.
Bedford(& the UK) gets 28,000 total jobs, a massive revitalization of a former industrial site, & a projected £50 billion economic boost.
The sheer cynicism around projects like this is exactly what holds the UK back. If we treat massive, job-creating investments as something to be outraged about, we only guarantee our own economic stagnation.
So ingrained in the Parisian psyche is rioting that even winning the Champions League is celebrated with scenes reminiscent of the Storming of the Bastille.
