Texas A&M has a passionate fanbase who supports the team even when they’re bad probably better than any other school in the country.
The HC intentionally antagonizing that fanbase seems like an odd choice.
I think Elko is vastly underestimating the overlap between these two groups. The people venting about the team online are by and large the same ones showing up to loyally support the team on Saturdays (many doing so for decades).
The coach shouldn’t particularly care what they have to say, but being condescending to them publicly is a pretty terrible look.
Nick Saban benched his starting QB at halftime of the National Championship game. Mike Elko won’t even bench his starting QB at 3-2 and getting 2 first downs in 3 quarters.
I love Texas A&M. I want Elko and A&M to be successful in football. Hate sounding like a jerk but we have to be honest…
It’s coaching malpractice to be in a position where this is literally your only option at quarterback. The offense is absolutely broken and due to lack of roster management at QB, you have no answer at all and have to wallow in this mess week after week.
Very sad to watch.
This disaster of a season is all on Mike Elko. He hired unproven assistants that are just bad. His choices led to what is probably the worst quarterback room in the SEC. Good thing the administration didn’t overreact after the easy schedule last year and lock A&M in to a terrible extension.
