So… the only way you could really have profit participation in an indie film like #Obsession would be to take points, but if you did then you’d probably have to take less salary upfront.

That’s the only incentive the filmmakers would have to burden their film with “debt” and cut into the investors’ ownership.

Then #Obsession sold for $15m and you’d only get a cut of that, not the box office.

If someone was really passionate about this they could start a studio that gave every single person equity in a film, and test the reality of that scenario.

But I think it would then be hard to get investors. The movie would have to be crowed funded, but then those investors would want equity too. And at that point you have so many investors, no one makes very much anyway.
