Graduate job vacancies are collapsing. What did we expect? Stack a jobs tax, a minimum wage hike and the Employment Rights Act on employers, and the first casualty is always the marginal hire: the graduate.

Graduate vacancies are ~35% below Feb 2020 and ~60% off the 2022 peak. The bottom rung of the ladder is pretty much deleted.

The slide began in 2022 as the hiring boom unwound and rates rose. Labour policies are cancelling recovery and are cancelling rebound from 2022.

The interesting bit is that London is falling fastest. Manchester is tracking the national average.

London's graduate market is finance, consulting, law and tech, with the deepest grad-scheme cuts and the most AI-exposed entry-level tasks in the country.

The mechanism: full-time on the National Living Wage is now at ~£25k, on a par with many graduate starting salaries.

Day-one rights make the ill-experienced hire a risky one. When the wage floor catches the graduate rate, the graduate premium collapses.

Employers aren't being asked to pay more for graduates. They're being asked to pay more for risk, obviously they won't want to.

Andy Burnham wants a round of applause for agreeing not to release rapists and child sex offenders. He's not getting one.

This is only a partial climbdown. Killers, violent offenders, men who have terrorised their partners and more will all still walk out of prison in October thanks to Labour’s early release scheme.

Yet again victims are learning their fate from press releases.

Conservatives have a better plan. Build, rent, remove. Build more prisons. Rent prison spaces abroad. Remove foreign criminals.

The victims of these horrific crimes have suffered weeks of uncertainty and fear. They deserve so much better.

I wrote to the Home Secretary about my concern over Saif Hashim Kamel Abukishek's entry not only to Britain but into Parliament.

He is an individual sanctioned by the US and works for an organisation linked to Hamas.

1. Has the Home Office considered proscribing the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, given the US has done so and the organisation has links with Hamas?

2. Why was Abukishek allowed into Britain when other high-profile individuals have been barred recently?

3. If authorities failed to properly screen Abukishek for security concerns, what hope do they have of screening other new arrivals such as the 813,000 individuals who arrived in the year ending December 2025? (2/3)
