Our lab is working on an open source sensor (accelerometer+). It’s being developed with dogs and cats in mind but we will likely use it for chickens too and could be used for other animals. We’d love your help to come up with a name for it. Other suggestions welcome
Help us predict what aspects of dog ownership impact owner well being. We need a large sample for our statistical models - everyone welcome -several languages available. Please help us with this important study (and thank you if you have helped already). https://t.co/F9ogKvQsjm

Twitter help needed. Please send me pictures of your sleeping dogs preferably in weird positions🐕🤷♀️. I have wonderful undergrad looking at sleep in dogs and this will help us ask the right questions.
@DoUBelieveInDog@YAWScience I'd suggest a scepticism of broad claims and behavioural categories (e.g. what constitutes sleep or play for the device) and of devices that are not forthcoming with published validation research. Things are improving but commercial pressure will incentivise overpromising.
@DoUBelieveInDog@YAWScience We address this mostly through taking the raw values output with only our own post processing to make meaning but this doesn't immediately help owners interested in buying devices.
Old age, or osteoarthritis? Osteoarthritis (OA) affects around 80% of dogs over eight, but early indicators of this condition, including joint stiffness, are often undetected and even misinterpreted as old age, leaving many cases undiagnosed until routine vet appointments.
We use wearables, such as fitbits or smart watches, increasingly in our everyday lives to track our health and fitness - so why cant our animals?
Sometimes they already are! Just comparatively rarely in the domestic environment.
