I think an interesting aspect of ASOIAF is how George’s ideas/attitudes may have changed over the years because for a series that seemed intent on satirising/critiquing fantasy conventions, this whole song of ice and fire prophecy thing seems to be getting given genuine weight

Now you could argue that presenting Oppenheimer’s ideas and hopes of what would be done with the bomb during and after the war purely as a tragically naive misjudgement is far too forgiving, but that’s its own thing
