@ellensandell It is important to note "For decades, governments have neglected public housing and chosen to give tax breaks and special deals to property developers, and supported private Community Housing businesses instead of making sure everyone has a home."
@PubHousingYes@HeatherHolst@DavidHaywardAU It is vital that the panel - @HeatherHolst and @DavidHaywardAU - meet with the @FOPHV who have clearly laid out vital considerations. Social Housing (in reality private Community Housing) should not be considered inevitable, and long term traps of privatisation must be avoided.
@lukedowning@Newwayofdoing@PublicTenants@Pendragoness53 Unless DHHS provides more Public Housing stock, then there is zero impact for the most needy/homeless on the housing waiting list. DHHS has only been investing in privatised Community Housing businesses who only offer housing to those on mid income and with low risk profile.
@PublicTenants Saying this will include Public Housing is spin. All these groups are private businesses aiming to expanding their Community Housing asset base. They have no interest in creating government owned and run housing. I would think the Public Tenants Association would know this.
@SamanthaRatnam The Public Housing queue will not go away and will need to be addressed sooner than later. If we have the land already available, then we have a head start to tackle the rebuild, and an operational model post-build can be used for the funding. 🧐🤓😙
@davelkelly Most states have now transferred their Public Housing properties to private companies called Community Housing .... And we all know what privatisation means 🤨😎🍾💵💰(utilities, roads, building inspectors, ports, trains and other madness) @PubHousingYes@FOPHV@PHousingNetwork
@SamanthaRatnam This is scandalous! First contracts are out. Open spaces of the estates are going to be jammed with private apartments - check out the graphic.
The only major party with a decent Public Housing policy is The Greens! Numbers below are per by Clay Lucas in The Age March 3 2019.
@SamanthaRatnam Thanks @VictorianGreens and the Auditor-General. How about copying the Germans? Many supermarkets charge deposits on plastic bottles, which can be returned to a machine which scrunches them into powder, and issues a ticket equal to the deposits which can be spent in the store.
@AdamBandt@AdamBandt that is heartwarming. Big hugs and love to you Akiko, CFMMEU-man and all the others. If everyone did a better job of relating to the individuals affected when debating policies and taking theoretical positions, the world would be a better place. 🐸Go @VictorianGreens
This statement is the culmination of 2 years of consultation with 7000 people and over 13 regional centres. And it makes sense - give the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a voice to be heard from and worked with. #ChangeTheNation
You are going to hear a lot more about it - take a read of the doc in the image. It was written by a convention over 250 delegates at Uluru in 2017, representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from around the country.
BELIEVE ME, IT IS WORTH THE READ
@jacobska@fonodioradio Vic government is actively privatising public housing via business called Community Housing organisations. These do not take in the most needy as the cannot afford the rents and are deemed a "business risk". 🧐
Govt needs to step up, build more, and stay as the landlord. 🙁
#QandA re commitment to housing, both Libs and Labor are privatising public housing and calling it community housing. An insidious plan to get out of the business of provision of housing to the most marginalised and homeless.
makers and growers COMMUNITY MARKET on at @stmichaels3054 this Saturday, May 4 from 9am to 2pm. Corner Macpherson and Macilwraith Streets, just off Lygon Street at the top of the cemetery.
@RoryRobertRoss1 @WhenDovesCry2@EnviroVic@RichardDiNatale@Greens Renewables are cheaper in part as coal has been made more expensive via massive increased government charges. BUT ... My concern is we will plod along and feel good when we meet targets but unless the world helps USA, China and India stop emissions then we are all dead anyway. 🔥
@SamanthaRatnam Great local action, but the planet is heading towards an accelerated climate change tripping point. We have about 2 decades to help the big polluters - USA, China, India - reduce their emissions. This is a global responsibility 🔥We can meet local targets but still die. HELP! 🥺
PUBLIC HOUSING SCANDAL - - - FIRE SALE OF PUBLIC LAND TO DEVELOPERS
March 2019: Over 700 private apartments will be built on land now occupied by three public housing estates, after the Andrews government signed a deal to rebuild estates in Northcote, Nth Melbourne & Preston
@yourseconddraft Families in hiding. Intervention orders not working. Women living in fear.
This is intolerable. Threat by an ex to kill the partner, children or relatives needs to be an automatic sentence into custody. Publicly shame them, lock them up, & exile them afterwards. 🔥 STOP DV NOW!
