@DOsports FINAL
Syracuse takes the series opener from Robert Morris, 2-1. After an even first period, the Orange took control and were able to hold on to a one-goal lead for the win.
FINAL SCORE:
SU 2-1 RMU
In just over ten minutes, Syracuse ice hockey is set to face off against Robert Morris. The Orange received votes in the USCHO poll rankings this week after splitting its series with Penn State, while Jocelyn Fiala was AHA defenseman of the week. I'll have coverage for @DOsports.
@DOsports There haven't been a lot of whistles in this game, and you can tell both sides are fighting exhaustion with under ten minutes to go in this one. Syracuse has defended well, but a Nea Tervonen penalty gives RMU a chance on the power-play late.
@DOsports Whatever went wrong in the second period for Robert Morris seems to have been fixed during the intermission. The Colonials have come out screaming in the first five minutes of the third, but so far, Drabyk's had an answer for everything.
@DOsports END OF 2:
In the middle frame, the ice swung in favor of the Orange as they are now outshooting RMU by ten. Maggie Hatch has been incredible, though, as she saved 15 shots in the period.
SU 2-1 RMU
@DOsports RMU appears to even the game up, but the goal gets called back for a high stick. The referees took another look at the goal and confirmed the call. Still 2-1 SU.
@DOsports GOAL SU
Just after killing off an RMU penalty, Rylee McLeod forces a turnover deep in the zone and fires a shot from the slot that gets past Hatch to take back the lead for Syracuse.
SU 2-1 RMU
@DOsports END OF 1:
Both sides had a pair of power plays in the opening frame, with Syracuse scoring on its second power-play opportunity while successfully killing off both of its penalties. This game is as even as it gets, with Syracuse leading in shots by one.
SU 1-1 RMU
@DOsports Jessica MacKinnon evens the game at one apiece from point-blank range on the first real chance of the night for the Colonials. MacKinnon went over Drabyk's shoulders to find some space for the puck as she ties the game.
SU 1-1 RMU
@DOsports And 11 seconds into the two-man advantage, Syracuse gets on the scoreboard first. Stella Costibile beats Maggie Hatch to open the scoring.
SU 1-0 RMU
@DOsports Through ten minutes, it's a pretty even game. Syracuse leads RMU 5-4 on shots, but neither team has scored, despite both getting a power-play chance. Syracuse is about to get a 2:00 5-on-3 advantage.
She’s the rock of our backfield.” Syracuse goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin has continued to keep SU close despite being consistently outshot. Eiselin’s six saves against Harvard on Sunday gave Syracuse a chance despite its 3-1 loss, from @JackWood_55.

Syracuse field hockey fell two spots to No. 13 in the Week 7 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll released Tuesday. It’s the second straight week SU has slipped in the poll, following a win over Louisville and a loss to Harvard.
