I know we have an aversion to engaging with the culture war and online disagreements. But I deeply believe the world would benefit greatly from good faith actors engaging meaningfully in discussion rather than pulling away and allowing the worst among us to fight it out for us.
JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Federal appeals court rules First Amendment protects private possession of AI-generated child sexual abuse material if it does not depict a real person.
Are they training it to break layers of their systems? If true and not exaggerated this behavior is scarily concerning. But it does sound like a classic sci fi ai hive mind. It’s like if we found aliens and they looked exactly like little green guys in flying saucers. Story?
JUST IN: It’s been revealed OpenAI’s rogue swarm involved roughly 1,200 AI agents, with some agents sacrificing themselves for the good of the “collective.”
i’ve been the youngest person in my team for five years. not because i’m some prodigy, because nobody’s hired below me since. no one has the cash for juniors, it’s an investment that rarely pays back.
ask anyone under 30 in an office job and you’ll hear the same thing. everyone’s the youngest. an entire rung of the ladder just quietly stopped existing.
so zoom out. graduates with £50k of debt claiming support off the government instead of paying into it. and when the current lot retire or move on, there’s nobody behind them
I think the dissonance on this comes from the fact that if older gen’s acknowledged the actual state of the world it would become clear immediately to them that their generation failed on almost every front from a policy and governance perspective.
That’s a lot to accept
OLDER GENERATION: You just need to want it bad enough.
GEN Z: I applied to 340 jobs this year. I have a degree. I have internship experience. I customized every single resume.
OLDER GENERATION: Back in my day you just walked into a building and asked for an application.
GEN Z: There's no building. There's no person. There's a portal that scans my resumes for keywords before a human ever sees it exists.
OLDER GENERATION: Sounds like you're not trying hard enough.
GEN Z: I got 6 human responses out of 340 applications. The other 334 were auto-rejections generated in under a second, Sometimes I'd even finished submitting the form.
OLDER GENERATION: We didn't have it easy either, you know.
GEN Z: I believe you. I'm just telling you what "easy" and "hard" look like on opposite ends of the same system, and asking you to actually hear it instead of matching it to your own story and moving on.
OLDER GENERATION: . ... ...
GEN Z: That's the part that gets me. It's not even that you struggled. It's that you won't believe mine is real.
Good morning.
The unfortunate reality is that the US National Debt is now doubling every 10 years, regardless of which party is in office.
Have a great day.
This is actually a really, really cool way to impliment the OG CE pistol trick into the lore by building it into the armor destruction from Halo 3.
But people are so desperate to be mad about every aspect of this game that it goes unnappreciated because "I did that before"...
@RincoRemington@khaliltooshort There are certainly flaws and things that I would change. I was hoping this would be my go to for replaying CE from now on and it may be. It’s not the home run I had hoped for but it is miles and miles ahead of CEA and most issues frankly can be fixed with modding I’m sure.
@khaliltooshort Also this looks gorgeous. I’m so confused. People have made up their mind on this without playing and are painting everything as bad. It’s not all bad. There is some great stuff here. Game also falls short in some areas. There has been 0 nuance on this topic and it’s childish
@khaliltooshort This is the most vibrant halo we’ve gotten since 5. Look at Pillar of Autumn, Truth and Reconciliation, Keyes, any environment that isn’t wholly natural and it’s insanely colorful.
Look at jackal shields in this game and plasma effects, extremely vibrant. Art direction is here
@MansMcg@MyNameIsRickyM The vfx really don’t in gameplay though. That screenshot is cherry-picked from a split second after several hunter fuel rods impact near the player. Ridiculous genuinely. Readability is not an issue in this game, you can see that from watching any gameplay. It’s pretty clean.
@KobiBrown210803@justahaloguy And I’m not shit talking the books. They are canon, but not on equal footing as the games. And in the case of contradictions, the games take priority over the novelizations every time.
@KobiBrown210803@justahaloguy I understand that they may be considered canon and by and large they can be, but they are secondary to the games.
If the events in Fall of Reach contradict Halo: Reach, then true canon is the game in those instances.
@Unyshek During my legendary run i had to resort much more to grenades and plasma for jackals as it was significantly less reliable to engage them with the Magnum as you would normally.
It felt good to use more of the sandbox, but it does feel unintentional
@Unyshek When shooting the hand of a Jackal with shield raised it seems bullet magnetism is drawing the bullet towards the shield making the hand unusually hard to hit unless you aim pretty far left
Noticed this immediately, jackals are hard to kill with precision weapons. Is this a bug?
@ReachTeaYT@MokuMekaPilotVT Those aren’t insane expectations, we want a game that can match something made 15 years ago… if that’s insane then it’s clear the bar has fallen so very far.
Halo should be at least as content complete as it once was, and at a comparable level of quality.
@ReachTeaYT@MokuMekaPilotVT Reach had all of these things minus the live service model. That’s all we want. Campaign, MP, Forge at launch with quality. Arena, Ranked, Big Mode, and excellent customization.
That is the expectation. We did it 15 years ago. Any live service after would be fine but unneeded.
@boinksi Do I have an issue with it in this instance. Not really. But it is indicative of a cultural shift.
You can say it’s a good change or a bad change if you’d like to take a stance on it. That’s the “culture war” boiled down right there.
@boinksi The fact that it was changed from the original implies the devs saw the demographic makeup of the original crew as a problem that needed to be solved. The original was not diverse enough and must be fixed is the driving idea
That is a decision motivated by culture and politics
@boinksi Is there a woke agenda? Probably not as a coordinated spoken conspiracy. But as a set of actions and decisions that emerge from the new age culture and politics of the developers, unquestionably.
That being said, the new Halo doesn’t overwhelmingly suffer from this as many claim
@boinksi Take Doom for ex. Women generally aren’t that interested in big guy ripping limbs from hordes of demons with no emotional attachment or development.
If you wanted to appeal to that audience you would have to change the essence of Doom or include stuff the core audience distates.
