From my first case on July 1st to my 60th (!!!) case today, operating with @BWGrayMD of @IU_PedSurg is always a great day!
I don't think many surgery interns have 60 cases by the end of month two. I love how our peds surg rotation @IU_Surgery allows us this early OR experience!
Great presentation by Dr @JacksonBaril on the rate of upstaging of clinical T2N0 gastric cancer and the implications on treatment sequencing. Engaging discussion on how to interpret and apply these findings at #CSA2024@IU_Surgery@IU_SOQIC@RyanEllisMD
Rotating at the @VAIndianapolis with @IU_Surgery has a special meaning to the work. Our team gets so many thank yous from patients, and we say it right back. #VAMC
Spent a day at Lake Monroe with friends. It's so nice to have golden weekends @IU_Surgery! They make trips like these possible with my schedule.
Finished my "this week in @SCOREsurg" learning with this beautiful view. Can't wait to try camping out here next!
I'm practicing reflection and gratitude today for this amazing profession. My staff, fellows, and senior residents are changing lives of children for the better. It's humbling to be a part of that team. I am beginning to understand the pull of #pediatricsurgery.
Took advantage of my "platinum weekend" by taking a trip to the Great Smokey Mountains with my new Indy friends.
That's wellness @IU_Surgery
And don't worry, I spent the car ride planning some teaching and practicing my knots (including left-handed, @jenchoi_iu!) #IUSurgery
Just one week into residency and I scrubbed 9 cases, 7 of them as the only resident. That's even with completing three call shifts!
And wow, our @IU_Surgery attendings are great teachers. Consistently allowing this #julyintern second tries on difficult moves to help me succeed.
Officially published!!
Happy to share @UMNSurgery's early interview day with feedback to prepare our home students (including myself!) for surgery residency interviews.
Huge thanks to @MattBobel and @BrunsvoldMD for being committed #surged mentors!

Some of my wonderful co-residents helped me get my new kitty Nikita last week 🐱
If that's not the best start to resident wellness then I don't know what is
Could not have asked for a better collaborator in @felixankel and inspiration in @DanielPesut - Please check out our piece on vertical development and how it relates to #MedEd#LeadershipDevelopment
The #SIMPLasPIE finale this morning didn't disappoint! The residents had their chance to have their names drawn to pie our #iusurgery education leadership.
(Due to COVID restrictions in the auditorium, only residents were present.)

It's day 1 in Indy and I'm already running along the river with all my new favorite hospitals in the background! Just like running along the Mississippi across from @MHealthFairview
My favorite incoming neurosurgeon and fellow MD/MBA dual degree! Cleresa is a well-renowned leader here at both @umnmedschool and @CarlsonNews. I can't wait to see her excel in #Neurosurgery residency 😃
"I think bringing my experience to the table will ultimately make it better for people of color," says Dr. Cleresa Roberts on becoming one of just a handful of Black female neurosurgeons. "I'm hoping I can change the system."
