The ONLY way we will get a public road there is by building one directly from FS to NPS land. We can debate the merits of that when it is presented.

@darinmorris191 @ChrisMartzWX If the NPS wanted this road, I would be in favor of it. I don’t want every private landowner adjacent to a national park having a precedent to demand an access road. Not to mention, Yosemite is gated, an additional access point would require adding infrastructure and staff.

They would not be asking for a land swap if they did not intend to prohibit public access.

@darinmorris191 @ChrisMartzWX There are also thousands of land locked public acres in California with no legal public access. What you are taking about with beaches has to do with public easements and high water marks on the beach. No bearing on this at all.

The NPS does not need a land swap to build a road on NPS land. The only rationale is a private road.

@GhostOfNorman @jhwygirl They are not proposing to build a forest service road. They are proposing to privatize a strip of current NPS land to build a private road. If the NPS wanted a road there to connect to a FS road and create a public access point they would not require a land swap to do so.

@mikesopinions80 @SenAlexPadilla A private road (closed to the public) from a private resort into the national park. This is not an access road for the public to enter Yosemite, which is a national park by the way. It is a handout to a private equity firm to increase the value of their land.

This NOTUS story is insane. Trump wants to give a piece of Yosemite to one of his supporters--a man who has done business with a firm tied to Howard Lutnick *and* the guy who underwrote Trump's $175M bond in the 2024 New York civil fraud case. A few days ago, the right was whining on here about private equity for slipping its tendrils around everything, and yet the right supports a president who wants to hand over parts of America's most priceless inheritance to a real estate private equity firm because the owner is a friend of his. The cognitive dissonance you have to have to be a Trump supporter and see yourself as an opponent of greedy big business or a steward of the land that makes this country beautiful is just insane.
