Active users versus organic traffic.

Some social networks have more active users than others.

But does that mean that the social networks with the most active users will drive the most organic traffic to your site?

We analyzed 9,488 sites to see which social sites drive the most organic traffic (non-paid social traffic).

But first, let’s look at the active users per social network (data from Statista):

Facebook – 3 billion
YouTube – 2.49 billion
Instagram – 2 billion
TikTok – 1.2 billion
X – 666 million
Pinterest – 465 million
LinkedIn – 310 million

So, if you had to guess, which one drives the most organic traffic?

YouTube – 1594 monthly visitors
LinkedIn – 1007 monthly visitors
Pinterest – 877 monthly visitors
X – 659 monthly visitors
Facebook – 385 monthly visitors
Instagram – 104 monthly visitors
TikTok – 53 monthly visitors

Keep in mind it is hard to get organic traffic from Instagram and TikTok. Sure you can add bio links and ask people to swipe up in your Instagram stories… but the options are really limited.

But the above data just goes to show that just because a website is popular, it doesn’t mean you are going to get a lot of organic traffic from it.

Specifically with Facebook, they’ve cramped down the reach for many years, especially if you link out to another site.
