A little bit late with this, but shout out to one of my favorite Dodgers Prospects I have had the incredible opportunity to cover, and that is Alec Gamboa.
Alec made his MLB debut last week, and it was an absolutely incredible moment. We got both him a JRoons (John Rooney) over that finish line, and that makes me DAMN happy.
On a personal note, I communicated with him and his family regularly, so to see them get rewarded as they did just makes ALL of the WHOLE thing worth all the fight Alec has put into this journey.
So, as per his journey!
Alec grew up in Madera as a diehard Dodgers fan and idolized the late great Fernando Valenzuela, as you can probably tell with his wind & delivery. He was and probably still is the best athlete to possibly ever come out of the Central Valley. He was a 3-time state placer as a wrestler, a standout on the football field, and obviously very good at baseball.
Gamboa went to Fresno State out of high school and ended up needing Tommy John surgery. However, before that, he pitched through it through his entire first Spring at Fresno State, then went and played Summer ball in Chicago. But, just before he came back, he got an Email that informed him that his scholarship was NOT going to wait for him when he got back. So, he had to find an "off-campus" apartment, he had to get financial aid to pay for it, and he eventually transferred to Fresno City College. That's when his elbow pain flared up again, and he had to have Tommy John. He got back in 2019 and pitched very well, in fact, so well that the Dodgers offered him the opportunity to work out at Dodger Stadium. He knocked that workout out of the park, and the Dodgers drafted him.
Then, he got overlooked at every turn in the Dodgers system. In fact, on multiple occasions, he was sent to AAA OKC, only to be sent back down to AA Tulsa. And, he was moved from a starter to a reliever, then back to a starter, and never given the chance to prove himself in LA. So, he signed with the Lotte Giants of the KBO, then got signed by the Red Sox to a Minor League contract this past offseason, then made his MLB debut last week.
This dude is tough, he's resilient, he's an ELITE human being, and it ALL paid off...FINALLY! Congrats, Alec, you are truly an inspiration, and you are what it's ALL about. #dodgers #alecgamboa @gambyy34
Alec Gamboa fought through tears talking about what this debut means to his family 🥹
"They've seen all the ups and downs that I went through. It took a long time to get here, but finally did it." ❤️

A special message and video from Rob Refsnyder:
Thank you to the incredible fans of Boston. It was such a joy to wear that uniform and compete for both you and the city.
Watching my kids grow up and play at Fenway, both before and after work, will be some of my fondest memories.
We met so many hardworking, amazing people who made this city such a special place for my family over the past four years.
A big thank you to the coaching staff, medical team, clubhouse staff, and everyone in the organization who has helped me along the way.
And lastly, thank you to my Sox teammates for putting up with me. I’ve learned so much from all of you.
Seattle,
I don’t think my younger self would have believed you if you had told him he’d someday be able to play for such an amazing organization. I used to play N64 MLB Baseball, featuring Griffey, for hours, pretending I was on the team. I feel so grateful, humbled, and fortunate for this moment. I’ll give you everything I’ve got. See you in Peoria.
The Red Sox have inked LHP Alec Gamboa to a minor league split contract with an invitation to big league spring training, per @WillSammon.
If he makes the majors, it's worth $925,000.
Spent parts of 2025 with the Dodgers at Triple-A and in the KBO.
