Last week, Jackson set a new bullpen PR at 94 mph. After reviewing some of his video, it was clear that he made a lot of strides mechanically and was starting to get into better positions with the back leg. We noticed that his sequencing wasn’t great at higher intensities, so when he came back for another pen this week, efficiency was the focus.

In my last post, I talked about throwing at a lower intensity to work on mechanical efficiency. That is the exact approach Jackson was using here. Start slow and add velo 1 mph at a time with a focus on efficiency rather than effort. This entire pen is such a good example of that.

Jackson didn’t struggle at all with this concept all the way up to 92 mph. He was stuck in the 92s for 3-4 pitches, and then he went max effort to finally pop a 93 (you don’t hear him grunt until the first 93). He then jumped around between 92-94 for a few, which tells me that’s the intensity where he really loses some efficiency.

Before the 95.4, we talked about the timing of his intent. Everything should stay as loose and relaxed as possible, just floating into position, until the front foot hits the ground. That’s when you slam on the gas. That cue worked for Jackson, and he hit a big PR. Super proud of him. But we are just getting started!
