A year ago, my friend took an impossible job. Challenging boss, insane userbase, utter mess of a code base... and genuinely cared and made it better
He gets a ton of shit for selling the same app twice, but his skill is undeniable after this chapter
no one will do it better
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster. I'll be stepping back from leading product for 𝕏 and will continue on as an advisor.
Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history. But running this app is a 24/7 job and it's now time for me to take a breather.
The app is seeing unprecedented growth in new users & engagement. We continue to break records every month. We've climbed 70 spots in the App Store since this time last year.
And in the last 400 days, we rebuilt almost every aspect of X: the Timeline, the Android app, onboarding, notifications, chat and more.
We also launched nearly 30 new products while protecting the integrity of the town square: becoming the first app to show Country-of-Origin on profiles and mounting defenses against AI bots. There's certainly much more work to be done, but our foundation is stronger than ever.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible team here. The next leaders will take X to even greater heights with @benjitaylor on design, @singhai on core product engineering and @dinkin_flickaa on mobile engineering -- among many other great people.
Thank you to Elon and the X team for welcoming me into the company. See you on the Timeline.
An internal version of Astra, @OpenAIs next major model family, solved 10 major open problems in mathematics, quantum complexity, and theoretical computer science.
We believe it will be a major step for scientific reasoning. https://t.co/iP6cyheZ7i
We’ve been hard at work making Copilot awesome.
Much more to do but great to see the insane acceleration from 20M to over 30M seats Q/Q backed up by so many engagement and performance wins!
2/ When it comes to Copilot, we are innovating rapidly, from chat to Cowork to Autopilots.
We have also been super focused on improving the quality and performance of Copilot.
Over the last three quarters, user satisfaction scores have doubled. And this quarter alone, we cut latency by 25 percent.
Copilot usage intensity speaks for itself:
· Number of conversations per user nearly doubled Y/Y
· Average weekly engagement on par with Outlook and Teams
· Number of customers with over 50K seats up 7X Y/Y
· Customers deploying Copilot to majority of information workers, up nearly 75% QoQ
And this quarter we will bring all our Copilot experiences together in one “super app” spanning both our consumer and commercial experiences.
I’m greatly looking forward to this!
Some more detail on the ROIC Intelligence App I built yesterday and mentioned on today's earnings call.
I took the PDF that Brian Nowak at Morgan Stanley put together for Hyperscale ROIC this week and used Copilot code (coming in our new superapp) with a single prompt + skill (/drill-me) to create the plan, then used autopilot in auto to create the full app (with history, lookups, scenarios, what-ifs, etc). And /rubber-duck to test.
And the best part is that all the artifacts are in my enterprise environment. My app is in Copilot, my code is in GitHub Enterprise; all my data pipelines/lake/semantic models are in Fabric. And everything is under Agent 365 IT/Sec/FinOps control!
So this is not about Tokenmaxxing or vibe coding. Every step of the way the rails are engineered to create value, making everything a long-term reusable asset, with governance/security, and cost controls.
This is the full system to drive business value. Disclosures: This is all pulled from public sources, and for illustrative purposes only...not financial advice! :)
Here is the app and architecture...
Today, we are announcing a series of updates that give customers frontier-grade security at half the cost.
MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is our first cybersecurity model, built ground up to find the most challenging vulnerabilities in complex code bases. When combined with MDASH, it delivers world-class performance at 50 percent of the cost of leading models.
We are bringing this capability to market through Project Perception, a complete agentic security offering grounded in real-world signals and security workflows. Teams of specialized agents work together to simulate attacks, detect and triage/investigate, and fix and remediate.
This is the benefit of building the harness, context/signals, and action space separate from one model family. By combining specialized models and data with the right agents, tools, security context, and harness, we can advance the frontier of cost to outcome.
If the takeaway is that companies act in their interest, it isn’t super novel. A world where open weight models are illegal seems to only benefit closed labs, whereas a world where open weight can compete with closed seems to benefit the consumer and all other companies (and America through increased competition)
There are open source alternatives to Microsoft, Office and GPU drive.
No one is lobbying to take this open source alternatives down, while for sure Anthropic is lobbying to take open source AI down.
You can decide to be closed source, but deciding to lobby for banning your open source alternatives is not good
This is a dumb take.
1. Open weights isn’t open source
2. No one is asking you to open source your models… we aren’t even asking claude to be open weight
3. We are literally just asking for the open weights made by others to not be made illegal.
Open-weight models are essential to a healthy AI ecosystem. Together with others across our industry, we are outlining a path for open-weight models to strengthen American competitiveness and expand economic opportunity, while protecting national security. https://t.co/Tr0sAzAxTD
