Director General @FertilizersEuro. Working with #fertilizer use & production plus #GreenAmmonia. Likes to understand so reads history. Views are my own.
The @EU_Commission announced how the EU aims to counter US subsidies. Real support for the industry is needed to avoid investment leakage and make the green transition a reality in the EU.

My takeaway from EP's vote
Mineral or organic? Mineral & organic fertilizers should be seen as complementary. Only through the use of both, we can ensure #foodsecurity. We welcome that MEPs recognize the need of improving nutrient use efficiency & optimized application
@EP_Agriculture members voted to becomes less dependent on Russian fertilisers and call for better support in transition to organic fertilisers.
๐ณ๏ธResult: 38 votes in favour to 7 against and 2 abstentions.

Suspension of duties: Given the present crisis in the EU industry and the development of the global #fertilizer market there is no argument in favor of continuing the duty suspensions.
I spoke at #Sofie2 about the complementary of mineral & organic #fertilizers and their benefits for farmers & crop growth. Mineral & organic fertilizers are both essential to ensure balanced plant nutrition. A deficiency in one nutrient cannot be compensated by others.
It was a pleasure to participate yesterday in the @EUYoungFarmers Congress and hand in the most resilient project prize to Simon Kainblinger who has implemented aquaponic in his familyโs farm bringing many environmental and business benefits.
Tomorrow I will the pleasure to take part in a panel at Congress of @EUYoungFarmers
hosted by @EPPGroup. Young farmers are essential for the EU, they will make sure we have sustainable and affordable food in future.

It is crucial to have a strong EU fertilizers industry, for EUโs strategic autonomy & to deliver on climate & environmental objectives. Our industry has an excellent record in decreasing GHG emissions & is investing in green technologies that will reduce its footprint up to 90%.
There is no silver bullet. EU needs all #nutrient sources for optimal plant nutrition. Mineral & organic fertilizers are complementary & provide different benefits for farmers & crop growth. Mineral fertilizers have flexible & precise nutrient content; are easy to transport & use
With 50% of food being produced thanks to the use of mineral fertilizers, the EU #fertilizer industry plays a key role in #foodsecurity. Short-term problems should not dismiss the long-term contribution & value-added of having a healthy domestic fertilizer Industry in Europe.
The fertilizer industryโs role in the circular economy is well-established. We already recycle millions of tons of materials from other industries or in our production processes.
The present #gascrisis led to shutdowns of nitrogen fertilizer plants across EU. The lack of European products is being replaced with imports. Replacing dependence on Russian gas with dependence on Russian urea is not a solution. We need a long-term strategy for the EU industry
Today I had the opportunity to participate at the @EUParl_EN@EP_Agriculture public hearing - Reducing impacts of fertilizers from production to end use โ Increasing circularity in agriculture. I highlighted the role of mineral fertilizers in #foodsecurity, EU #strategicautonomy
I am looking forward to participating in this year's @EUYoungFarmers taking place on 7 December in Brussels and having constructive discussions on #foodsecurity.
We welcome the recognition of the @EU_Commission that action is required to improve current conditions for EU #fertilizer industry & farmers. Long term - a more comprehensive strategy is needed. It should include measures to support the green transition

I am glad to see the Commission recognizes the important role of our sector in EU's #foodsecurity and #strategicautonomy. Both short-term and targeted
action, as well as measures to support the green transition of our industry, are of critical importance.
We do not want to substitute one dependency, namely the one on fossil energies, with another one on fertilisers. We do not want off-shoring to be taking place or rely entirely on imports. This sector is too important and too strategic to be left only to market forcesโ๏ธ
