@KaytlynMulford Kaytlyn, I agree, but sometimes the only way to empathize is to have experienced something similar first-hand. For example, the death of a parent, sibling, or loved one. Some things are hard to teach. As teachers, we can however, teach parallels. #NCTEchat

A4: I would say when they question or interpret the characters’ emotions and motivations. Once Ss begin to do this, many will start advocating for character decisions because they understand the “why” and can empathize with that. #NCTEchat

A4: We see S’s begin to empathize in their writings when we see the appearance of minority groups. S’s often create stories of characters that are only like themselves or who they want to be. When we see difference in characters and minority groups appear we see empathy #NCTEchat
