When I made this piece I decided I was going to go for a minimal, but a more direct approach to the main image. To allow space for the image to tell the story.

This is a style I’m not 100% comfortable with yet, but the subject matter is what I am comfortable with. Realism has been something I’ve studied for a long time. Between tattoos and actual drawings, I have worked hard at getting myself prepared to understand it.

But when it came to making shapes in colors to make sense I felt lost, and most of all uncomfortable. The way the shapes come together to make the whole image just wasn’t something I had ever worked on, or even thought about for that matter. All colors needed to be smooth transitions and blended, that is, until I found this way.

Once I had wrapped my head around what little I could understand, and with some help from my great friends, I could start to push myself into seeing things in a new way.

This piece is titled “Angelic”, and describes the struggle we all face at times. And the beauty we all see and would like to see.
