Today, UWA had the privilege of hosting the British High Commissioner at the breathtaking Mt. Elgon Conservation Area, the majestic Mountain of Masaba, for an unforgettable nature walk along the iconic Sasa Trail.
From the roaring beauty of Chebonet Falls to the rich biodiversity that thrives across this spectacular landscape, the experience showcased the very best of Uganda’s natural heritage.
Expertly guided by our concessionaire John Hunwick, alongside the dedicated UWA team led by Tourism and Hospitality Officer David Okiring, the hike offered meaningful insights into conservation, eco-tourism, and the vital role of protecting nature for future generations.

The rare white giraffe that got killed alongside her white baby!
Poachers killed Kenya's only female white giraffe and her baby which was also white. There were only three giraffes of this kind left.
The bodies of the two giraffes were discovered in a skeletal state in Garissa, eastern Kenya. After being killed by armed poachers, now there is only one male white giraffe known.
This happened in 2020.
Warm congratulations to the team at @ugwildlife, under the leadership of Dr. James Musinguzi, on successfully translocating Rhinos to Kidepo Valley National Park.
The translocation of the first two rhinos - part of a carefully managed plan to reintroduce eight into the wild - is not just a conservation milestone. It is a powerful restoration of Uganda’s natural story, a reminder of what is possible when vision meets commitment.
As stakeholders in tourism, we celebrate this bold step toward enriching our wildlife offering and strengthening Uganda’s position as a destination of choice. Uganda’s tourism is rising and this is what progress looks like. #ExploreUganda

They tried to smuggle Uganda’s national bird across the border.
But conservation teams stopped them.
In Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, supported by the Uganda Conservation Foundation, successfully disrupted a wildlife trafficking network attempting to illegally trade Crested Cranes into the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The rescued birds are now in the care of UWA veterinarians and recovering well.
Five suspects have been arrested and will face prosecution.
The Crested Crane isn’t just wildlife, it’s a symbol of Uganda, proudly standing at the centre of the national flag. Its raised leg represents a country moving forward.
Today, thanks to dedicated rangers, investigators, and conservation teams, that symbol is protected.
But wildlife protection doesn’t happen by chance.
It takes commitment, teamwork, equipment, and support.
Every rescue operation helps ensure that Uganda’s wildlife continues to inspire the world.
👏 Thank you to the incredible teams protecting Uganda’s natural heritage.
Thank you to @ToyotaUganda @cfaomobilityug for supporting our teams – protecting wildlife, tourism, development and Uganda’s heritage.
