Drew Barragan is a standout senior infielder currently playing for UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) and is a notable prospect for the 2026 MLB Draft. After a decorated career at the NAIA level, he has successfully transitioned his elite offensive production to Division I.
2026 Season: The Power in Las Vegas
Playing primarily as a third baseman and designated hitter for the Rebels, Barragan has maintained the "video game" numbers that made him a legend in the Cal Pac conference.
Current Form (April 2026): He is hitting at an elite clip, currently boasting a .457 batting average and an OPS of 1.368 through the first half of the season.
Production: As of early April, he has already tallied 7 home runs and 39 RBIs.
Transition: He spent a brief period at Western Kentucky before transferring to UNLV, where he has become the engine of the Rebels' lineup.
The Path to the Pros
Barragan's journey is one of the more unique stories in this draft cycle. He was an "Eagles" star long before he was a Rebel:
Embry-Riddle (AZ) Legacy: In 2024, he won the Cal Pac Triple Crown, leading the conference in batting average (.448), home runs (16), and RBIs (94).
Summer Ball Dominance: He holds multiple franchise records for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the Northwoods League, including the single-season record for RBIs (63).
Awards: He is a former NAIA First-Team All-American and a finalist for the Lou Brock Player of the Year.
The Scouting Report
Standing 6'0" and 200 lbs, Barragan is viewed as a high-floor offensive contributor with professional-grade polish.
Strengths: Elite contact ability and gap-to-gap power. Scouts have been impressed by his transition to the Mountain West Conference, proving that his NAIA power translates to top-tier competition.
Defensive Utility: While he was a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop at Embry-Riddle, he has shown the arm strength and range to stick at third base or second base at the professional level.
Draft Outlook: Currently projected as a Day 3 selection or a high-priority free agent. His age (24) makes him a "senior sign," which often appeals to teams looking for mature hitters who can move quickly through a minor league system.
