Miami University changed its mascot from the "Redskins" to the "RedHawks" in 1997 to respect a request from the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, who withdrew support for the name. The Tribe asked the university to stop using the name, prompting the board of trustees to change it to avoid using a race-based nick name.
However, I agree. Go Redskins!
