Gaza Health Ministry Warns of Imminent Collapse of Medical System

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza has issued a dire warning: the Strip’s healthcare system is on the verge of total collapse because Israel continues to block the entry of emergency medical supplies.

In a June 25 statement, the Ministry reported:
➤ Only 45 of Gaza’s 312 operating rooms remain functional, and even these are running at limited capacity.
➤ Hospitals are overcrowded beyond capacity, especially in intensive care units, with a sharp rise in critical injuries.
➤ 47% of essential medicines and 65% of medical supplies are now completely unavailable.
➤ Only 9 of 34 oxygen stations are partially operational.
➤ 49 generators are operating with limited fuel, unable to meet hospitals’ electricity needs.
➤ Diagnostic imaging is severely restricted, limiting life-saving interventions.

🔶The death toll from the blockade is staggering:
➤ 338 cancer patients have died while waiting for permission to leave Gaza.
➤ Another 11,000 cancer patients have lost all treatment options due to destroyed centers, drug shortages, and travel bans.
➤ 513 patients have died due to Israel’s refusal to allow them to travel for treatment abroad.
➤ 41% of kidney failure patients have died due to lack of dialysis access.

🔶 Conditions in northern Gaza are catastrophic:
➤ Israeli forces have emptied the north of hospitals by besieging and destroying them.
➤ The sick and wounded now flood the remaining facilities in Gaza City, which are already overstretched.

🔶 Other critical health threats include:
➤ A severe shortage of blood due to malnutrition and anemia making blood donation impossible.
➤ Therapeutic milk is unavailable for infants amid worsening child malnutrition.
➤ Displacement camps face the worst health and humanitarian conditions, with no clean water and rampant disease.

🔶 Disease outbreaks are surging:
➤ 59,000 cases of bloody diarrhea
➤ 254,000 respiratory infections
➤ 337 meningitis cases, including 259 viral
➤ Chronic patients have lost access to medications, risking deadly relapses
➤ Vaccination rates have dropped to 80%, especially for polio, due to import bans

The Ministry says continued Israeli aggression and obstruction of aid efforts by international organizations are accelerating the collapse. It called on the world to act immediately to prevent a full-scale health and humanitarian disaster.

VIDEO: Hassan Barbakh, three years old, who died Tuesday from severe malnutrition, kidney failure, an enlarged liver, and acute acidosis. His family issued multiple urgent appeals to transfer him abroad for treatment. Israeli authorities denied all requests.
