In my opinion,
Xenophobic South Africans fear white people,
They don’t just fear them they are subservient to them,
They accept the propaganda that white people are superior…

You see it everywhere,
In how they treat white customers,
Be it in restaurants, retail stores or the airport,
They automatically treat White people better.
They worship White people.

Because of this inferiority complex,
They cannot confront institutional racism,
And the inequality of their society due to both the historical structure,
And misgovernance post apartheid.

But because of the genuine issues they face economically, socially and politically,
Because of their marginalisation,
They are angry,
Rightfully so,

But they can’t confront white supremacy,
So they lash out at foreigners.
I think xenophobia is a coping mechanism of some sort,
A way for them to seem to be fighting the status quo,
Without having to actually confront the systems protecting the status quo.
It’s a deflection.
