이거 1세대 처음 나왔을때 우리 가족이 도시에서 1호를 출고했음. 말할것도 없이 명차임.
6기통은 부드럽고 편의시설은 월클임. 차 자체가 운전하기 편하고 팰리세이드보다 지붕이 높은 느낌이라서 여행용으로는 미니밴이랑 맞먹는다고 생각함. 지금은 내가 독립해서 니로 PHEV로 바꿨지만 가끔 그립네

바로 기아 텔루라이드.

미국에서는 지금 기아를 대표하는 3열 대형 SUV 중 하나인데 한국에서는 공식 판매안함.

이 차가 재미있는 게 애초에 미국 가족들의 생활방식에 제대로 맞춰 만든 차라는 것.

3열 넉넉하고 카시트 달기 편하고 애들 여러 명 태우기 좋고 짐 때려 넣기 좋고 그렇다고 미니밴처럼 보이지도 않음.

그런데 자동차 회사 입장에서 보면
이게 엄청난 성공이다.

차가 단순한 이동수단을 넘어 미국 중산층 가족이 타는 패밀리 SUV 라는 캐릭터를 얻었다는 뜻이니까.

최근 미국의 3열 SUV 비교에서도
텔루라이드는 팰리세이드, 그랜드 하이랜더, 파일럿, 익스플로러 등을 제치고 1위 평가를 받았다.

더 웃긴 건 이 차의 국적
- 브랜드 🇰🇷 한국
- 회사 🇰🇷 기아
- 생산 🇺🇸 미국 조지아
- 핵심시장 🇺🇸 북미
한국 공식판매 안함.

한국 사람이 미국 여행 가서 처음 타보고
기아에 이런 차가 있었어?하는 차가 텔루라이드임.

어쩌면 기아가 해외에서 잘나가는 이유도 여기에 있음.

한국에서 잘 팔리는 차를 해외에 가져다 파는 단계를 넘어 미국인이 원하는 차를
미국인을 위해 만들 줄 아는 회사가 됐다는 것.

텔루라이드는 한국차라기보다 한국 회사가 가장 미국적으로 만든 차에 가깝다.
