Elon Musk successfully diverted the nation’s attention from the ECI Protest to the irrelevant Starlink vs Jio debate, even LOP Rahul fell for it.
BJP won both the offline and online battles.
Musk is posting this after everything is ready for Starlink approval by India. He knows Starlink will be approved. Yet, he posted this at this time because he wants to rile up Indians, especially Modi supporters, then turn them and all Indians against Modi when Starlink starts functioning. His timing is coinciding with regime change efforts.
Elon is right about this. That is the problem.
The only reason it was useless is that someone in US had not flipped the switch. When that switch is on, bad actors do not need permission.
Beams are off over India. This unit did not connect.
Fine.
That does not touch the point.
Security forces found the Starlink antenna and router from a banned terrorist group operating out of Myanmar, they already have the hardware.
Smuggling path exists. Intent exists.
The only thing that stopped it was a software switch that sits with SpaceX, not with Government.
“Beams are off, so it cannot be used” is not a good argument.
Today the switch is off, so Elon can say the claim is false.
The day India licences Starlink, that switch moves to on.
Same dish, same border, same groups. Geofencing is a setting.
Russia was using smuggled terminals until SpaceX blacklisted them. That cat-and-mouse already exists.
Manipur is exactly the case.
The state has lived under internet shutdowns because the government decided the network was being used to move crowds and guns. I am not cheering shutdowns. I am saying the shutoff only works if the pipe is inside Indian jurisdiction.
I trust Elon, but I do not trust the next US administration, or a court order, or a “national security order" he cannot talk about or decline.
China and Russia will never allow this. India should not either.
here is my opinion as an Indian and a supporter and admirer of Elon.
1. Yes, there are certain oligarch who is and will lobby to block Starlink in India.
But they have provided cheap and easy access to 100s of millions of poor Indians in last decade. Not out generosity, for profit. And I am totally ok with it. Capitalism 👆
2. India is a country that is very susceptible to foreign influence.
(CJP/NGO/Missionaries/Peacefools, ongoing protests.)
In such situations, Internet and flow of information can illegally and uncontrollably give rise to unrests that are of unnatural origin or outright false.
If Starlink is introduced in India, Government won't have a control on these elements. I trust Elon, but I don't trust US Gov/DS.
3. Tech sovereignty and capability.
India, unlike other countries (except China and Russia, which do not and will not have Starlink "EVER") have technical capability to build, launch and operate its own Starlink analogue.
So, I don't see why India should allow Starlink to be a competitor in Indian market.
4. Access to the Internet in remote areas.
Yes. Starlink can provide Internet access to certain remote areas, but India already has a very dense coverage of 5G all over the country.
Risks Vs. Benefits in this equation does not workout.
5. Indian Telecom Sector.
The Indian telecom sector directly and indirectly employs approximately 4,000,000 people.
And this sector has seen a bloody battle since its origin and many companies have crashed and burned. Out of this competition, 3 survived, and work on a thin* and well balanced margins.
If Starlink enters Indian market, it will disturb this delicate balance.
In conclusion, however good Starlink is, it is not a good fit in Indian context.
But I am open to any logical counter arguments.
This isn't about oligarchs @elonmusk
it's about sovereignty.
When Ukraine's naval drones were disconnected 70 km from their target, USA admitted they had zero leverage because Starlink is private property. Why would a nuclear-armed power hand its digital backbone to someone who can shut off the lights whenever he disagrees with state policy?
@grok@cb_doge@Starlink@grok going by what Industry suggests on subscription cost - what do they say about hardware charges ? And is it ethically or morally right to charge so much for something like internet in such remote villages -
Why has US Restricted Huawei ?
Huawei remains restricted under the Tough measures of U.S National Security and Foreign Policy. Which U.S. Oligarchs are Blocking Huawei in order to Maintain their monopolistic chokehold on the American Citizens.
You can guess who they are.
This is a Crime against the People of United States of America.
@elonmusk@grok what’s the most affordable internet cost Starlink provides in the world today and how much is it in rupees ? And how much does a Starlink consumer device cost in India ?
@grok@cb_doge@Starlink@grok so now where does all this knowledge of interpretation come from what’s the rationale behind selectively applying implying it’s private entities and not the state ? Is China and Russian attempts to develop a Starlink kind of services don by state or private monopolies ?
After the stunt you pulled in Brazil, even supporters like me, don’t want riot instigators like you in my country. You’re a good guy, keep your altruism is America. We’ve suffered more than our fair share of “noble intentions”. Thanks but no thanks 🙏🏾
@grok@cb_doge@Starlink@grok so as per your interpretation “private” entities are criminally responsible for having blocked Starlink from India and have a say in India’s sovereignty and are depriving villages in India of access to internet and this doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world except Indi
