After covering the CJP protest for a month, here's what I've observed. Some of it may sound harsh, but this is what I think:

-The protest was a complete flop during its first 20 days, even after 12 days of Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike.

-Everything changed around 10 July, when the protest suddenly started getting political mileage. A wave of paid influencers and celebrities from Instagram began promoting it, and that's when it gained some momentum.

-The crowd did increase after 10 July, but not to the extent that it filled the entire Jantar Mantar.

-The strangest part was that the protest gradually shifted from being anti-Pradhan to becoming openly anti-Modi and anti-government.

-An organic crowd was certainly coming, but along with it came a section of hardline anti-social elements.

-The situation worsened when, while keeping students as the public face of the movement, opposition party workers and anti-social elements gradually increased their presence through the back door.

-When Sonam Wangchuk's health started deteriorating, the government, although in a controversial manner according to some, ensured he was admitted to the hospital immediately to keep the situation under control.

-From that point onward, the protest became vulnerable to being hijacked. While students remained the face of the movement, opposition party workers gradually took control of it.

-A day before the 20 July "Chalo Sansad" campaign, crowds were brought in from across the NCR from as early as 6 a.m., arriving through different means.

-The turnout on 20 July was significant, but in my view, only around 30% of the crowd appeared to be organic, while the remaining 70% consisted of opposition supporters and anti-social elements.

-According to my observation, it was these opposition-linked elements who created chaos and pelted stones at the police, and in the process, even the organic students ended up facing police baton charges.

-The CJP itself didn't seem to expect such a large crowd. After seeing the turnout, it appeared to conclude that instead of ending the protest, it could derive political benefit from it.

-The same people who claimed the government refused to speak to them were invited by the government to discuss their demands. Even after that meeting, they dismissed it as a waste of time.

-After witnessing the 20 July crowd, the opposition appeared to throw even more support behind the protest and became increasingly dominant.

-At this point, I believe only around 5% of the participants are genuine students, while the remaining 95% are people who have taken over the protest and now seem focused on creating unrest and trying to teach the government a lesson.

- Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and others now appear to be mere pawns. The real decision-makers seem to be someone else, and Dipke no longer appears to have any meaningful control. That is why, in my view, talking only to him serves little purpose.

What started as a genuinely peaceful protest, with a relatively light atmosphere, has now become aggressive and, in my opinion, has fallen into the wrong hands.

Students suffered injuries, police personnel were injured, and the people benefiting from all of this are those pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

How the government chooses to deal with this protest from here will be worth watching. But as things stand today, I believe this protest has been ruined.

I am going back home. I can't do this anymore. There are literally 5 goons around every genuine student. My brother and sister were protecting a Delhi Police officer because we had met him before, gave toffees to him and he told us if any problem occurs we can reach out to him. Last night, he didn't even have a stick in his hand. He was just asking everyone to move aside.

Suddenly, 10-15 goons attacked him and shouted, "Tujhe bhi Ratan Lal banayenge." I didn't understand it at that moment but when we searched on google, we found that Ratan Lal was a police officer who lost his life during a riot in 2020.

We were shocked. The most shocking part is that even the people leading the protest know about this but they are not doing anything. I want a career and I don't want to get into any trouble. If you are a student, just get out of this facade. Otherwise, you could end up ruining your career along with these goons."

I hope she reaches home safely after exposing the reality of CJP with so much courage 🙏

CJP ने जानबूझकर इस मार्च की परमिशन के लिए अप्लाई तक नहीं किया था क्यूँकि उसके पीछे जो भी दिमाग़ है उन्हें पता था कि जब हज़ारों छात्र सड़क पर संसद की तरफ़ बढ़ेंगे तो उनमें कई उपद्रव के मोड में भी होंगे। पुलिस ऐसे लोगों को रोकने के लिए लाठी चलाएगी या आँसू गैस छोड़ेगी तो उन्हें वो नैरेटिव मिल जाएगा जिसका उन्हें इंतज़ार है कि “सरकार छात्रों को पिटवा रही है”

पेपर लीक सिस्टम से परेशान लाखों छात्रों के इमोशन और सेंटीमेंट को यूज़ कर लिया गया। जो वाक़ई शांति से इस दर्द को रखना चाहते थे उनको भी हंगामा करने वाली भीड़ की पहचान दिला दी गई।

एक पक्ष फुल नैरेटिव बना रहा कि सरकार अत्याचारी है, दूसरा पक्ष साबित करने में लगा है कि ये तो छात्र हइये नहीं है। असली छात्र और उनका मुद्दा सन्नाटे में है।
