SIMATELELE YOUTHS EMPOWERED WITH SOLAR DRYING TECHNOLOGY

The youth of Simatelele in Binga District have taken a significant step towards economic empowerment and climate-smart livelihoods after receiving hands-on training in the use of a modern solar dryer.

The training, facilitated through the Green Digital ConnectZW Project, equipped young people with practical skills to preserve kapenta, bream fish, vegetables, and fruits using a clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly drying technology. The solar dryer will help reduce post-harvest losses, improve food quality, extend shelf life, and create opportunities for value addition and increased household incomes.

This initiative is a shining example of how innovation and technology can transform rural communities while promoting sustainable environmental practices and youth entrepreneurship.

Special appreciation goes to WILD, SAYWHAT, Save the Children, the Zimbabwe Youth Council, and the European Union for making this impactful training possible and for investing in the future of young people in Simatelele.

BINGA RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL ADVANCES SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH FIRE MANAGEMENT AND WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY FORMULATION

Binga Rural District Council (BRDC) has taken another significant step towards strengthening environmental governance and promoting sustainable development through the formulation of a comprehensive Fire Management Policy and Waste Management Policy.

In addition to these important policy frameworks, the Council has also developed a Fire Management Plan and a Waste Management Plan, which provide practical implementation strategies, clear operational guidelines, and coordinated actions to effectively address environmental challenges across the district. These plans ensure that the policies are translated into measurable actions that protect both the environment and local communities.

The initiative underscores the Council’s commitment to protecting the environment, safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Binga District. The policy formulation process brings together key stakeholders, including Government departments, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), traditional leaders, community representatives, development partners, and other relevant institutions to develop practical and inclusive policies that respond to local environmental needs.

The Fire Management Policy, together with the Fire Management Plan, seeks to strengthen measures for preventing and controlling veld fires, which pose a serious threat to forests, wildlife, grazing lands, agricultural production, infrastructure, and human life. The framework promotes community awareness, the establishment and maintenance of fireguards, early detection and reporting systems, coordinated emergency response, regular monitoring, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to minimise the devastating effects of uncontrolled fires.

Complementing this effort, the Waste Management Policy and Waste Management Plan provide a comprehensive framework for improving environmental sanitation through efficient waste collection, transportation, disposal, recycling, and public education. The plan outlines practical interventions that encourage responsible waste management by households, businesses, institutions, and communities while promoting environmental stewardship, reducing pollution, and supporting a cleaner district.

Through these policies and implementation plans, Binga Rural District Council is laying a strong foundation for effective environmental management that aligns with Zimbabwe’s environmental legislation and the national Vision 2030 agenda of achieving an upper middle-income economy through sustainable development.

The Council believes that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and continues to encourage residents, community leaders, schools, businesses, and development partners to actively participate in fire prevention initiatives, proper waste management practices, and the successful implementation of the Fire Management Plan and Waste Management Plan.

Zimbabwe has reached another significant milestone with the introduction of Air Zimbabwe’s direct flights to the United Kingdom, eliminating the need for passengers to transit through hubs such as Johannesburg’s OR Tambo, Addis Ababa, or Dubai.

The development is expected to make travel more convenient for Zimbabweans in the diaspora, businesspeople, tourists, students, and other travellers by reducing travel time and simplifying journeys between Zimbabwe and the UK.

Supporters of the Government have described the move as another indication of the country���s efforts to strengthen its aviation sector, improve international connectivity, and promote economic growth through enhanced trade, tourism, and investment opportunities.

Many have welcomed the achievement as part of the broader infrastructure and economic development agenda being pursued under the Second Republic, led by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, expressing optimism that improved air links will further position Zimbabwe as an attractive destination for business and tourism.

Questions Presidential Aspirants Without Parliamentary Backing
During a celebratory rally focused on the recently gazetted Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 3) Bill, popularly known as CA3, the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi, delivered a pointed message regarding the evolving landscape of Zimbabwean politics.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Hon. Ziyambi challenged the political logic of opposition figures or independent aspirants who seek the presidency without building a robust foundation of parliamentary candidates. He asked:
"Munhu anoda kuita President asina maMPs anenge achida kutonga nani?" (Whoever wants to be President without Members of Parliament, who do they think they will govern with?)

Understanding the CA3 Context
Hon. Ziyambi's remarks directly tie into the architectural changes proposed in the CA3 Bill. Moving away from a purely direct national popular vote for the presidency, Clause 3 of the CA3 framework introduces a system where a presidential aspirant must secure an absolute majority across both Houses of Parliament (the National Assembly and the Senate).

The Second Republic, under the leadership of President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, continues to implement innovative programmes aimed at creating opportunities for Zimbabweans while driving national development. One such initiative is the Zimbabwe Global Skills Partnership Programme (ZGSPP), whose guiding principle is “Work Abroad, Gain Skills and Return Empowered.”

The programme is built on the concept of circular migration, allowing Zimbabweans to legally access employment opportunities abroad, acquire internationally recognised skills, and eventually return home to contribute to the country’s economic growth and industrialisation.

Rather than viewing their return as a challenge, Government is transforming it into an opportunity by registering returnees into a national skills database. This enables Government to identify their expertise and connect them with local industries, investment opportunities, entrepreneurship programmes, and national development projects.

* Access skills development and certification opportunities.
* Participate in entrepreneurship and business development programmes.

The initiative demonstrates the Second Republic’s commitment to ensuring that migration benefits both the individual and the nation. This initiative also supports the implementation of the Global Skills Partnership Programme, which promotes safe, legal, and structured labour migration where appropriate.

This is what a caring Government does, it does not abandon its citizens. Instead, it identifies their skills, creates opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, and ensures that Zimbabwe benefits from the knowledge and experience gained abroad.

This important road project is set to improve connectivity between the newly established Kasambabezi Border Post and Binga Airport, enhancing the movement of people, goods and services while unlocking new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment in the district.

The road development demonstrates Government’s continued commitment, working together with local authorities and development partners, to modernise infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic transformation in line with Vision 2030. Improved road infrastructure will also benefit local communities by providing easier access to markets, essential services and business opportunities.

The month that many Zimbabweans have been waiting for has finally arrived. July marks another historic chapter in our nation's constitutional journey as all eyes turn to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, .

With Parliament having successfully concluded its constitutional mandate on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, the final constitutional step now rests with the President's assent. This is a significant milestone in a process that has involved parliamentary debate and public consultation.

As ZANU PF, we have full confidence in the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa and his unwavering commitment to constitutional governance, national unity and the continued development of Zimbabwe under the Second Republic.

The journey towards an upper-middle-income economy by 2030 requires stability, strong institutions and decisive leadership. Under President Mnangagwa's stewardship, Zimbabwe continues to chart its own path with determination and purpose.

Good evening, Mayor Coltart.

I hear what you’re saying about CAB3—but I won’t pretend that the constitutional process is something to be discarded simply because people are upset by the political outcome.

Here’s the clear point:
CAB3 was passed in accordance with the procedures the Senate has authority to use. The fact that the public debate is loud does not turn a parliamentary act into an automatic illegitimacy. A bill does not become “illicit” just because it was controversial, or because a faction claims it preferred a different route.

And about your insistence on a referendum being the only acceptable ending, there is no need for that referendum in order to validate the legislative steps already taken. The referendum talk comes late in the chain more like an attempt to re-litigate the same parliamentary decision rather than to correct any genuine defect in process.

So my advice to you is simple: let the existing constitutional mechanism run its course without adding extra pressure that the law may not require in the way being suggested. If we keep treating every contested motion as a reason to demand a referendum, then any contentious bill will become permanently stalled and that’s not “defending democracy”; that’s weaponizing delay.

The process exists for a reason: to prevent chaos. CAB3 has entered the next stage. Don’t confuse anger with constitutional necessity.
