Anyone know why Spanish speakers tend to phrase numbers from largest to smallest (10 to 7) whereas English speakers phrase numbers from smallest to largest (7 to 10)?

In a setting with a stenographer,

Turn your head in the direction of the stenographer when your interpretation is going to be recorded into the record.

DO NOT give the stenographer your back.

This is a big no no.

From time to time I get hired to oversee another interpreter’s performance.

Some interpreters are too loud.
Some interpreters are incapable of doing their work and just fading into the background.
(Which is in my opinion an essential quality of an interpreter)

The interpreter must not express frustration over the witness’s inability to understand the question,

even if the questions are simple enough for a grade schooler to understand.

We dont all have the same level of intelligence & that’s not even relevant to the task at hand

As an interpreter, your voice is your instrument.

How you use it is of the utmost importance &

though you dont want to necessarily have a monotone voice,

you also cant modulate your voice randomly or because you brain finally hit upon the right word for the interpretation.
